Usually at that age because they only eat formula, they are constipated for a reason. Either the formula has too much iron, or youre not mixing it properly. You might need to switch to a differnt low iron formula.

If you're breastfeeding its perfectly normal for a baby to go nearly 5 days without pooping, breast milk is almost perfectly digested, and theres very little waste.

Babies always grunt and fuss, it doesnt mean theyre stopped up.

If baby is stopped up at this age usually just a few tablespoon of water will work. If its not working some apple juice will work better. If its a really bad spell you can put a teaspoon of cyro in a couple oz's of water.

Ive never seen corn syrup in the US that wasnt heated before packaging, unless maybe it was sold organic in a health food store. As a side note- thought i'd add that in there.

I would have to say that not being able to poop is at least as much a risk to your babies health as the Karo syrup. Doc prescribed it for my daughter too, btw. I, also, didnt like the idea, as I didnt want her to have so much sugar. My mom suggested I give her a little diluted apple juice which I have been doing for some time since and which, most of the time, works great. However, your baby is not old enough for juice. Continue with the Karo till she's old enough for juice. I don't believe it would be too late, unless you've had shots. Why not try breastfeeding, also. Breastfed babies have VERY watery BMs. Might help. (I breastfed my daughter till she was 9 months. Wish I'd gone a year. She still got constipated; but I believe it would have probably been worse were she on formula.) Also, you can always seek a second opinion if it would make you feel more comfortable. Finally, have you spoke to your pediatrician about your concerns? Asked him/ her about infant boutism and whether there are any risks for your baby?

I would ask, why is the baby constipated? I would also offer a more natural method. Mix more water in the formula (if that is what you are using) for one or two feeds. I feel like giving Karo syrup is treating a symptom, not the source. If baby is formula fed, have you been trying something like, putting rice in the bedtime feed to make the baby sleep longer? This is an over-used, not thoroughly thought out old wives remedy that leads to dehydration. So, don't add anything to formula except the water it calls for. If you're not doing that, I'd try to determine the source of the constipation and work that out.

You could, but it's not a good idea. I have two ways you can try. One is to make a pot of boiled water, cover it and let it sit at room temp until it cools and let the baby drink some of that. What that will do is really loosen things up and the baby will fill up the diaper in about an hour. The other is diluted apple juice. Both work great and the baby won't have all that sugar from the corn syrup.

NO!

Honey and corn syrup both carry a risk of botulinum, which causes infant botulism. Not good...don't do it.

Here's one...
"Why shouldn't honey or corn syrup be given to a baby?
Honey and corn syrup can carry Clostridium botulinum spores.
After being eaten, the spores can multiply in a baby's digestive tract where they produce a poison.
The poison causes infant botulism, a serious though rarely fatal food poisoning disease.
For this reason, honey and corn syrup should not be given to a baby under one year of age. "

And...
"On a final note, light or dark corn syrup is often used to help babies with constipation. The American Academy of Pediatrics warns that due to the potential theoretical risk of botulinum contamination babies should also not be given corn syrup that has not been pasteurized(sterilized) or declared "botulism spore free". "

No don't give baby corn syrup. I had terrible constipation problems with my daughter. She is on enfamil AR and it get thicker in the tummy. My MIL figured out to add an extra oz. of water. For example in making a six oz. bottle add seven oz. of water and still three scoops. That has been working for her but talk to your ped. before you do that because some babies will lose weight this way. Also you try moving babies legs in a cycling motion, boil up some water and let it cool. One oz. of water to one oz. of apple juice can help too. If baby is BFing they can go a good four-five days with a poo. If the constipation keeps up for about 30hrs.-2 days let your dr. know or take baby to a dr. because it could inpacted. ((hug)) I know it is no fun with constipated baby.

Both of my daughter's and my niece had bowel problems and my pediatrician told us to try the kayro syrup. But I honestly can't remeber how old my girls were the first time I gave it to them. You should really call your pediatrician and ask he/she what they think. My pediatrician also told me that a baby can actually go up to a week w/out a bowel movement before it becomes a serious problem. But when you have a little one that just really needs to go, you don't care about any of that. Good luck!!!

no,

they can't digest it, and it could leave bacteria in their bellies

What you can do is stick a thermometer with vaseline up her rear end

keep it in there for like 3 minutes till she poos or Farts

So easy and simple,

I used to do this with my son,

Also everyday give her 2 oz of water and that will help loosen the stool

Good luck

M

PS breast fed babies sometimes don't go for like a week

and they don't need to go poo everyday even if they are formula fed
