I have to disagree with some of the answers. I live in upstate NY and have a freezer out in our Pole Barn. When it gets real cold, the freezer clicks on and off continuously. I took a small gooseneck lamp and put a 25 watt bulb in it. I put the lamp down in back by the compressor and just leaned a board against the back. In the Spring I remove the lamp. That solved my problem.

In my 40 some years I have always lived in a home with a freezer in the garage or back porch which was not heated in the winter. For many homes the garage or an unheated room may be the only place to fit an extra appliance.

Normally, YES! You are getting mixed up with the problems arising from using single compressor fridge / freezers in outbuildings, this is because the stat is in the fridge and governs both the fridge and freezer compartments, when the ambient falls below +5°c (the fridge temperature setting) the stat will cut out and the freezer compartment will RISE to ambient from -19°C. Temperatures are suggested norms.

Sure. It will help the freezer keep your food cold. The problem might be more in the summer, if the garage gets very hot, since after cooling your food, it has to cool itself, too. Regards, Mike

Having recently cast round for a freezer and read many details on the way they perform they all said,Not suitable for
out side use in outhouses, garages and sheds.
Why not ring a main store near you who sells what you need
and ask the experts ?
New models do not perform like yester year.

You can get "outbuilding" rated freezers in the UK. this would be best as its got better insulation for the compresser and the wires are better protected against our little furry friends.

Even places like Iceland sell them, they are just not always clearly marked. We bought 2 last year.
