Do not know what kind of vehicle you have but you can do it yourself for about $60.00 That includes new pads and having the rotors turned. If you need new rotors of course it will be a little extra. But why pay someone else $50.00 per hr. or more when you can do it yourself unless you are not able to. It should take no more than 1 hour to do this.
Stay away from big businesses like Sears,Firestone.....
Check the paper for small garages. These usually have small overhead costs and can offer cheaper prices.

I had a roommate who got a quote of $600 to replace her brake pads. She was bummed out because of all that money. But I showed her how to do it. And we did it together. I just walked her through it. And she was a stone FOX who made her living as a graphic artist. If SHE could do it, so can you. It's TOTALLY SIMPLE! Brake pads cost like twenty-nine dollars. But I've bought new ones for as low as 9 dollars.

So. Do you want to save $500? I've replaced brake pad at LEAST 20 times in my life. There's a certain complexity but it's nothing like the complexity of replacing your clutch or piston rings. You can do your brake pads in about two hours. Four if it's your first time.

Get one of those books for auto repair for your car. You can even get them for free at the library. Just photocopy that page.

Why pay a mechanic $600 to do something so simple?

Your driveway. Just buy new pads and rotors at the parts store, get a good socket set and go to town.
