You know every American? Because if you dont then how can you possibly know they are self absorbed? There are people in every nation who could be called that.

Because the ones that are so self absorbed don't read or watch the news (Or even the news don't show world events) they know nothing about what goes on outside their own state let alone country, Americans that have maybe travelled to Europe or read about world events are not as bad
It is all about intellect and general knowledge if you choose to make yourself aware of what is going on around you then that is good but you can't condemn them if the TV stations don't consider the rest of the world important

you need to realize that just like in every case, it seems the thoughts or actions of a few can make others think the entire group is like that. dont judge ALL AMERICANS!!!!!
