if something is delayed, it does not start at the expected time because of a problem.

The meeting was delayed
The flight was delayed
There was a delay at the station

If something is postponed, the start time is changed to later, usually by agreement:

The meeting has been postponed until next week
We had to postpone our holiday when George fell ill

To put something off usually means to choose to delay doing it because you are feeling lazy.

If that's Jim on the phone, put him off, I don't want to talk to him now.
never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

I was going to delay my answer until 11:30 UK time.
I was going to postpone my answer until 11:30 UK time.
I was going to put off my answer until 11:30 UK time.
So, I did all three and, guess what the difference was? Nothing.
They all mean introducing a time interval before something happens.

'Put off' can have another meaning. For example: "People wanting iPhones may be put off by the price." In this case it means discouraged or deterred. Unlike the other meaning of 'put off', this usage does not mean there is any time interval - just a feeling they do not want to do it.

Postpone and Put off are pretty similar. They both have a sense of a deliberate act -"I will put off doing my homework until tomorrow." "Match postponed due to bad weather." Delay carries the implication that it is a temporary inconvenience "Delays due to roadworks". It is not so much of a deliberate act, more something you can't avoid. Hope this helps.

delay and postpone are more or less the same, but put off means like you don't want to do it so you say, "Ah, I'll do that 15 page essay later" or something... catch my drift?

i think they all have similar meanings. postpone means something has been ground to a halt, delay always means pushed back, stopped or ground to a halt. put off it definantly has been stopped.
