My daughter will be 6 months old tomorrow and she is HUGE! she goes for her 6 month appt today but I am guessing she is around 23 pounds. She has outgrown her infant seat already. My "problem" is taking her out now. She sits up on her own, but her balance is not quite there yet. So She tips over in shoppiing carts and cant sit in resturant high chairs yet. Anyone have this problem? Any soulutions?

Also she outgrows baby toys, such as her jumperoo she is quickly approaching the weight limit on that, but she loves it!

Carrying her in a sling or wrap is really not an option, she is so heavy, and surprise! Im pregnant again! and my back is killing me!

My daughter had this same problem and I'm sure my son (born 11lbs 1 oz) will have the same problem too. My daughter, we just simply held her in our laps while at restaurants. Sometimes we'd sit her in the high chair and pack blankets around her to keep her tush from sliding. She could sit up the rest of the way. As far as shopping, we would just get the carts that had the baby seat attached to it. It worked out well.

Just to ease your troubled mind, she is almost 18 months old now and is perfectly fine. Her weight has evened out with her height once she started walking. All my children have been tall and "big", but once they start really moving around, that weight just drops off.

My daughter weighed over 10 pounds when she was born. So I have had some experience in this area.

You might consider placing rolled up baby blankets or pillows around the baby in the seat of the cart to help her stay upright in the cart.
Be extra watchful and attentive.
Also, make sure that her face is open to the air and that she does not slip face down into the blankets, or fall out of the cart.

In a restaurant, take a friend or family member along to assist you if at all possible. I wouldn't put her in the high chair. I would hold her on my lap and if I wanted to eat or needed the ladies' room, I would ask Grandma or Sis or my friend to hold the baby while I took care of business.

You probably should not put her in the jumperoo, because it might not support her if she's outgrown it. Perhaps there is a another toy that could be substituted that she would come to like as much or more.

It would be better for her to be momentarily disappointed by losing access to a particular toy, than to risk injury to her in any way.

So far, most people think you're asking if there is a problem with the baby being big. But, you asked if there are any solutions to baby "stowage" when you shop and eat out.

I fully understand the "too big for sling" thing, and I'm surprised that even though you said as much, people were still insisting you try it. My daughter was GIANT also, and I found that sitting her IN the grocery cart was safer than in the seat. I brought a fairly thick baby quilt and layed it in the bottom, pulling the edges to cover the sides. Then she sat in the cart and played with her toys. I used the seat and the area under the cart to hold my groceries (obviously this meant more frequent trips or pushing two carts through the store).

In restaurants, I'm afraid the only solution I found was to sit her on my lap. I'd ask the waiter to have the chef cut all my food before bringing the plate out. Then I'd only need one hand free. Of course, her weight and strength meant there were a few occasions when she lurched forward and I had to drop my fork to catch her before she whacked her face on the table. But, you do what must be done, ....

Best wishes to you, and your growing family.

my son and daughter were both like this, give her about a month and she should be fine in the shopping cart, just bring her stroller for the time being and use it as a high chair at restaurants and whereever you go. Make sure you buy rearfacing car seat because she needs to be in one until her birthday. Those alpha omega ones are great.

Use a convertible carseat for in the car - she definitely still needs to be rearfacing in the car, but use the infant seat for in restaurants and in shopping carts.

Please only use the infant seat in the basket of the cart - never on top of the toddler seat. Your manual should say the same thing as well.

Oh do I have experience with this. I'm a little surprised that she's outgrown her infant seat though. My chunker is 10mo, 28lbs & 31 inches. Just yesterday, we had to run in and out of a couple stores (5 minute max at each) & I kept him in the carrier and stuck it in the carts.

I can't find the cart cover we have online. It comes with a velcro attached pillow for support in the back & has straps that will keep her from flopping foward. You could place pillows on each side to prevent her from flopping too.

Instead of using restuarant high chairs, bring this with you:

It has the harness type of restraint which will prevent her from flopping.

Chubby babies are adorable!!!! WOW and Congrats on your pregnancy!

Can you wear your daughter in a sling or wrap until she can is well on her own?

My son also outgrew his infant seat before he could sit up well.
