I'm only 49 years old, perfectly healthy, not overweight, I excerise, don't smoke or drink and eat very healthy. There is absolutely no history of colon cancer in my family on either side, but all of my doctors, OB/GYN and two Primary Care doctors are all bugging the heck out of me to go get a colonoscopy done. I'm virtually at NO risk for polyps or cancer and I'm not 50 yet. I heard that they get money back for sending patients for this test. Does anyone know if this is true?

I haven't heard of this.

The bigger problem is malpractice. If, God forbid, you did develop something further down the road, they could be sued. A lawyer would hire some "expert" doctor to review your charts and find some shred of "risk" and then testify in a lawsuit brought by you or your family. Even if no blame was found, it costs thousands of dollars to defend yourself. It is often cheaper to settle out of court than fight it. If they have it documented that they advised you to go in for the test, and you refuse (which is your right) then no one can come back and say they should have advised you to get the test.

I think this must be true because my doctors through the last 6 years also bug me constantly for a colonoscopy and there is no history in my family either. I m at very low risk for it but they seem unusually concerned. It occurred to me they get some kind of payback for sending people for colonoscopies the last time especially when the doctor didn t even want to talk much about why I was there, but wanted to schedule this test. They sent me to a FINANCIAL person in the clinic to schedule this appointment and told me that I would pay $600 up front and then the rest would be covered. I scheduled it just to stop the pressure from them, and then later called and cancelled it. The pressure to schedule the appointment was unbelievable.
