Well I agree with the person who said about Thanksgiving might give us a reality check or whatever. Also, my mom and I don't do Black Friday sales. We might go shopping today but we don't care about the sales.

And also you can't say that not everyone participates in helping those who are in need. I do it. But the thing is I do it because I want to, not because I feel it will be better on my conscience or something like that. And when you help out those in need, when you want to, I think it makes all the things better.

Questioning what I do exactly to help others? Well of course when I see the Salvation Army things if I'm not totally broke I will give maybe $1, $5, and if I'm feeling really generous maybe $10 or $20. I do donate my old clothes and toys. Mostly to like women's shelters though or something. Also I'm a flutist, piccloist (if there's a such a thing), and I'm slowly playing the phife. So this year I will be playing at my mother's nursing home she works at where I'll play for a couple old people. And I might play at some local hospitals depending on what my flute teacher thinks.

So you see, not EVERY American is ungrateful or hypocrites, but then again....I'm not American. We just celebrate the holiday for the food. I'm thankful all year round.

Blondie.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I stay away from Black Friday sales. All those people grabbing things off the shelves and jockeying for first position really make me nervous.

I give to the poor every month, through monetary donations, clothing donations, and in other ways. So I resent anyone who says that all Americans are thoughtless and ungrateful materialists.

I don't know the heart of others, so I try not to judge them. I just try to live with the right heart and a spirit of compassion.

To me, Thanksgiving is about getting a reality check and realizing how lucky you are to be alive and have what you do have. It doesn't necessarily mean that you can never buy material things again.

It is the same with Christmas, you are supposed to be humble, but people spend huge amounts of money stuffing their fat bellies, and then drop a few small coins into a poor mans hat...

Most people on the Friday after Thanksgiving shop for others. For their children. For their parents and brothers and sisters and grandparents. That's not selfish. Who told you that was selfish???

I guess it just depends on whose propaganda you feel like listening to...

very good point sayno

and what makes it sadder is that a lot of the things they buy

especially clothes

will have been made by child labour , or poorly paid overseas workers

It just goes to show you that we have little morality in our world, and may never have. It is up to each individual to live a good life and give of themselves.
