Chop blocks ARE legal in the following areas:
1) The player being blocked IS NOT being engaged by another player at the time of the chop block
2) It occurs within 2 yards of the line of scrimmage.

It defpends. If the defender is engaged by another blocker, never.
Otherwise if he can see your head.
I forget what it is called then, but "chop block" is the term for the illegal version. The "whatever" block is exactly like it but the defender was not engaged and the blocker was in front of the defender. I think the legal version is called a zone block.

as long as the player you chop-block is not engaged with another player
so if 2 guys are batteling each other another can not come over and take out his legs
but the chop block is legal , you see running back do it all the time to slow down defensive ends ....

you cannot bring chopping blocks onto the field, as they are too big and bulky, and would only get in the way. Why would you want to bring a hunk of wood onto the field anyway?

No it's an illegal move based on the fact that it can prevent severe leg injuries.
