I think that you've gotten the two mixed up. LAN doesn't have anything to do with internet speed. LAN *Local Area Network is a computer network covering a small geographic area. It is used for say linking Business A on the south side of town with Business B on the north side of town.
Furthermore, LAN is used a lot with databasing and connecting other files between two places. This is different than WAN (wide area network). The internet is a good example of WAN.

LAN is as above, it is the Local Area Net
Cable is the ISP Internet Service Provider
DSL is Digital Subscriber Line ; there are many flavors of DSL
okay; assuming that you have Cable Internet, the best speed for Cable internet in our area is 8 - 10 Mps and for DSL in our area is 5 - 7 Mps. there are other types but limiting to these
now a LAN ( local area net) is of several flavors, the wired has speeds of 10/100/1000 Mps and the wireless has speeds of 1/5/11/54/108 Mps these are the common ones. those WLAN (wireless local area net) speeds also depend upon other factors.
the common WLAN is the 802.11 b/g standard which has a speed of 11/54 Mps
so as you can see the LAN ans WLAN are not usually the bottle neck of the system it is the Cable/DSL connection (WAN (Wide Area Net)) that is the bottle neck.
it should be noted that ISP's may advertise the speed of say... 8 Mps, but in reality you may not experience that speed, that advertised speed is total bandwidth, not necessarily what you will get, you see that total bandwidth is shared by all those that are on it.
also. there are built in software 'restrictions' on your computer that may limit speed available to the user by 'reserving' a percentage for the O/S and some operating programs.
oh and the ISP's charge a premium for that faster service, there is usually a slower speed that is very good, just doesn't cost as much.
i hope that helped

Cable is your type of connection.
LAN is your Local Area Network.
Meaning your Lan will be a cable connection. Thus meaning that your LAN is not faster than your connection.
