I don't think it's helpful at all. In fact, the less 'class' we have, the less confusing ...
The trouble with having the concept of 'class' as you mean it is that a false 'class' is created, the wannabe class. These are basically people who want to project themselves as something they are not, and spend vast amounts on creating a facade - but at the end of the day, all they have created is a facade.
You're born with class. It doesn't mean you're rich or poor, black or white, living in a manor or a flat - class is how you are towards other people, your consideration of them and courtesy towards them, and how well you deal with them. If you stand your ground and look them in the eye yet remain friendly and approachable, then you have class. Even if you don't have a pot to piss in.
Throwing money around and being flashy is not classy, nor is talking about the wines you know and buy. It actually looks very cheap and vulgar.

I'm not sure it is "helpful" to divide people into upper, middle, and lower class; but, history likes those classifications.

Umm no because it is the same thing as judging, and it is obviousl not our job to divide people into certain stereo groups. I think every one is equal in one way or another, yeah some try harder then others but still that does not mean they need to be judged for it. Do you want to be judged as a person and but into a certain group just because of who you are and your lifestyle?

Helpful, I couldn't say...But, the middle class is quickly becoming the lower class under Bush's term. Have you noticed the cost of living lately? It's ridiculous!

Absolutely not! Branding people a certain "class" makes no sense. Why should the size of someone's wallet or stock portfolio make any difference at all?

Yes. To address the economy, we have to have status. Dividing the classes is not meant to be disrespectful to anyone.
