whats the real deal with mass media, all I ever hear is you only a mouthpiece for the establishment, is this true, and if it was why wouldn't you report it? apathy? fear of job loss? I feel the only place to get "real news" is the daily show/corbet report. You know "the fool is the only person who can be honest in the kings court" kind of thing.
Where is a really good news source?

to the sports guy below, thats exactly my point, some of the most important issues are also tediously boring-eg SPP talks this summer-next to no coverage-some of the most potentially life changing policy discussions-minimal news about it-the only reason it got national attn (in Canada) was Qc police were busted trying to be instigators and cause protestors to get violent, even then the real issues of the summits were suppressed or sugar coated

Heck, I work in the sports department. What is the establishment in my case? If your premise were correct, there would be many more conservatives in newsrooms. In fact, newsrooms tilt a little liberal because reporters aren't a fan of the status quo -- it's boring and doesn't make news.

Admittedly, some stories can be stopped because of pressures from advertisers or government, but that usually happens at smaller outlets. And, especially these days with the Internet, etc., there's always a way to ge tthe story out.

Even the people reading or watching news from the most reliable and insightful news organizations need to keep some questions in mind as they read:
1. What is the main point of this article?
2. Is there evidence presented to back up that point (or is it just stated and then analyzed)?
3. Is there room in this article for an articulate statement of the strongest counter-argument?
4. Have the main actors in this had a chance to publicly discuss the points raised here?

Skeptical readers help even the best news organizations live up to their own standards.

Most news shows are a good source. There are times the establishment manipulates the media, but for the most part they are all reporting the "real News".
