To date, it is the first Christmas with my daughter. She was 4 months old, and really didn't get what was going on, but she was so damn cute in her tiny santa hat that her daddy bought for her! And I really understood for the first time what the feeling a parent has watching their child at Christmas. Her second Christmas, she was older, and could unwrap the gifts (which she did BEFORE the actual day numerous times!!!!), but her first one was truly the best one.
This year will be her third, and she understands "gifts" now, as in she knows that if something is wrapped in pretty paper, it is a surprise, and usually something fun! I think this one will be even more fun. But the first was the best.

Last Christmas was great. Just me and the immediate family. We ate sooo much and watched loads of dvds. christmas music was played all the time and mum was in the kitchen making delicious food (banofee pie was my favourite).
This year will not be good. i have lots of exams in January which i'll be spending the holidays revising for...shut away in my room. no movies. no christmas music :(

When visiting a family in the projects, a young black girl asked me why Santa didn't like black people. She said he never came into the projects to bring presents. That he was probably afraid to get robbed or shot. They also didn't have a chimney for him to come down.
So I told my family and we all agreed to forgo buying for each other and to pitch in and buy presents for this family. We bought a ton of stuff, and I mean a ton. We showed up Xmas Day and the little girl, Jasmine opened the door and I angrily said to her, "Who told Santa that you lived with us? " She said what? I said, "I found all these bags under my tree with your names on them. So one of you must have told him you lived with us!"
The eyes. I will never forget the eyes of wonder at each child getting a huge trash bag filled with presents. How long they took opening each gift and oohing and ahhing over it. How surprised they were to find there were more presents in their sack to open.
Truly the spirit of giving.
