There is this thing that I know has worked for a couple of my friends, take a wedding ring, or a ring that is circular,(no stones) and put it on a long piece of thread, about 30inches, so that it hangs loosely. hold the ends of the thread and let the ring hang down over your right or left palm. The ring will move around a little, let it settle a bit. Now if it moves in a circle, the baby will be a boy. If it moves back and forward it will be a girl. Good luck!

Usually an ultrasound done between 18-20 weeks is the best way to tell the baby's gender.
Otherwise if the woman is having a CVS test (chorionic villus sampling) they can also determine the baby's gender at this time too. Usually this test is only done if the risks for genetic abnormalities like Down syndrome are suspected.

I have used the same "technique" as Gabri, but only with family members and mostly for fun. Basically the same as described above, but I use a string with a sewing needle poked into the eraser end of a long pencil. Have the pregnant woman lie flat on the floor. Hold the pencil directly above the fetus and my indication is if the pencil swings in the direction from head to toe it is a boy and if it swings side to side it is a girl. So far I have been right 8 out of 9 times. It has been a lot of fun and of course I have my doubters but my results have to speak for themself.... luck??!!

If you mean determine, like choose what gender, there is a type of genetic modification that some doctors can offer but it is very expensive and not very reliable. If you mean like you want to know what kind of baby, ultrasound will do the trick.
