A major difficulty in comparing the intelligence of man with the dolphins is the fact that we have evolved into two different environments. The so-called "environment factor", which makes comparisons between even different ethnic groups of men extremely difficult, becomes almost an impenetrable when comparing men and dolphins.

On the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.

Probably the biggest and most dolphin research is done by organizations that have no interest in promoting them to the # 2 most intelligent species on earth position. The point may seem subtle, but it has to be said, that if dolphins are found to be truly intelligent, there would be a great deal of controversy in using them in military programs. And the military research is, of course, shrouded in classification and secrecy.

The animus that must naturally develop between these two groups probably leaves many people considering serious scientific dolphin research a little uneasy. Perhaps studying some other animal might seem more appealing in context. And then of course there's the whole physical problem to deal with dolphins spend their lives swimming around in the ocean, we don't.
Whales at first glance don't look very bright. They move slowly. They spend most of their lives just swimming about and feeding. Then again, Einstein spent most of his time staring at the ceiling. You really have to spend time with them or study up on them and their smaller cousins the dolphins to realize how bright they are.

I still believe that human is the most intelligent species in the planet Earth.

Certainly not, if you give them a human type IQ test anyway.
You know, comparing intelligence between species is difficult. My dog can tell me, by sound alone, right before a car drives up and parks in front of my house. I can't do that. Sure I can hear cars going by, but I don't know when one is going to stop in front of my house unless I am watching. Is the dog smarter than I am? Yet my dog, walking on a leash, will go on the other side of an obstacle we pass, thus getting us stuck. Obvious to me, but not to the dog.
Dolphins are obviously quite smart, but I wouldn't know how to tell whether they are smarter than humans. Their anatomy and physiology is so different from ours. And you can only measure intelligence in that context, not in the abstract.

1) Dolphins were never human - and never will be. 2) "Smart" is measured based on assumptions that the scientists conducting the tests wish to prove or disprove. Anthropomorphizing dolphin or chimp behavior to attempt to find the "smartest" is more an exercise in human rationalization than a physical measure of ability. 3) There are stories like this for chimps -- you just need to know where to look.

as dolphins are a different species and live in a different habitat to humans, i dont think its fair to compare them. i think they are one of the most intelligent species you will find in the sea. the noises they make are their way of communicating. they also use sonar to help them find things. they are quite intelligent creatures, but i think humans are more intelligent than they are.

No. There is no way to test an animals "intelligence". We humans are truly alone. You should be concerned about people that insist on animals being more intelligent that humans.
