The defrost system is in need of repair. It could be 3 things
1.Defrost Timer
2.Defrost Heater
3.Defrost Thermostat

The timer rotates around and every 8 hours it shuts down the icebox and turns on a heater. The heater is energized for 21 minutes. It would burn up the icebox if it stayed on that long so a thermostat is built into the system to shut down the heater when the temp reachs 50 degrees or so. What can go wrong? Over time the motor and gears in the timer will hang up and lock, Some times just twisting the timer around a few turns will make it work for a few more years! The heater itself will eventually fail like a light bulb. The therminator will swell up and die,how would you like to live your whole life inside a freezer? If the heater has failed ,replacement of the terminator (defrost thermostat) is done because access is there to do it. Since it is the same age as the heater and could fail anytime it is recommended to replace it while replacing the heater. If you have a newer model with electronic board ,it still needs a heater and a thermostat. And they go out too.

More than likely, the seal around the door is shot.

Run your fingers around the rubber seal that surrounds your freezer door. If there are any breaks, tears etc...then it isn't sealing properly. You can buy and replace them fairly cheap and easy...and your freezer will then again seal properly.

Also, clean the seal and the surface area of the fridge where the door meets fridge. Sometimes, dirt and grime can collect here and we don't even think about it, until the fridge doesn't seal again. If it is dirty, simple dish soap and hot water will clean it up (as long as there isn't years of things like built up grease on it...if there is, you will have to use something a bit stronger probably). If it IS dirty, cleaning it might solve the problem without having to replace it.

Either way, good luck. I've had this happen many times over life and its irritating but fixable. *hugs*

no frost simple means it goes through a cycle with a timer & ( some have a heater ) defrosts perodicly... that is why ice in the bin will gradually get smaller if left long enough. you could have a timer out & is is acting like a manual defrost freezer!
