We are told that HIV originated in Africa, aparently spontanously in monkeys!
Is there anyone who still believes this?
HIV an experiment that went wrong using Africans as guinea pigs?
A virus that is constantly mutating, can it ever be eradicated?

Orla, I think that you are refering to SIV, which in that form is not transferable to humans. Also it is not as agressive as AIDS.

Not if it's man made.
Only way to eradicate it is, for the person/persons who created it to have developed a cure as well.
Aids was actually first diagnosed on a merchant seaman in the 50's way before it started in africa.Because this case did not appear in documents until after it developed in africa This is were the belief that it originated in africa came from.
Most experts have said it is man mad due to its sudden appearance as an almost perfect Virus.

I read that scientists knew about it as early as the 1930s. It was originally an illness that affected primates, and it got into the human population through people killing and eating these primates.

Of course, no real research was done on AIDS/HIV until it got into the richer West, where it could damage the economy - remember how wealthy America was in the 1980s? People eventually began to link partying hard (unprotected sex and intravenous drug use) with the spread of the disease.

In the meantime, the poorer countries of the world remain ravaged by this terrible disease.
