Just a quick question, but are work phones (i.e. mobiles provided to employees to use for work-related business) tracked by the company which gave them it to ensure there isn't too much personal use?

Does the company or the employee with the phone pay the bill for it?

Usually companies track the calls. And if they can prove that someone used it for too many personal calls, they can try to charge for the minutes used on personal time

The company, of course, will have billing records of numbers called, but in my experience, companies have better things to do than monitor who you call. If they think you're trustworthy enough to have a phone, they think you don't need to be checked up upon.

If you do something outrageous (like charge $1000 of 1-900 calls) they'll look into it, but if it's normal use, most companies have more imporant things to do.

As for the bill, the company would pay it. If they wouldn't pay it, then it would be you and you could pick your own darn phone. So they either give it to you because they need you to have customer contact (or need to reach you), or it's your own choice. I wouldn't pay for any company provided phone. If they wanted to give me a phone they should pay for it. Otherwise it's my choice to have a phone or not and I'll pay for it if I decide to have one.

In many companies, yes, as the company telephone is NOT for employee use in making personal calls, only for office use.

I think this too depends on the position of employee. If he is on a very high post then I dont think they will track it. But ya generally it is tracked.
