If the air bag deployed you will have to replace more than just the airbag to make the system work. The sensors that triggered the airbag, the computer for the system, and in newer cars the seat belts have an explosive charge to tension the belts in a collision. Once all this is taken care of, the system needs to be cleared with a factory scan tool. There is also a unit in the steering column called a clock spring that makes the contact between the turning steering wheels air bag and the column wiring harness. On some vehicles the clock spring will trigger the same failure code as the steering wheel air bag. Big Bucks!

the battery answer is right but you may have to leave off for up to 10 minutes for code to disappear. also if you have a newer car check the owners manual to see if by disconnecting the battery you aren't going to erase the computer and have to have the car towed to the dealership to have computer program reinstalled.
