3x^2-7x-6=3x^2-9x+2x-6
=3x(x-3)+2(x-3)
=(3x+2)(x-3)

either 3x + 2 = 0 or x-3 = 0

Question should read "Factorise the following expression" :-
3x² - 7x - 6
(3x + 2)(x - 3)
Check
3x² - 9x + 2x - 6
3x² - 7x - 6 (as required)

3x^2-7x-6= 3x^2-9x+2x-6 = 3x(x-3)+2(x-3) = (3x+2)(x-3)

therefore x=3 or x= -2/3

=(7+11)/6
=3
OR

=(7-11)/6
