So here we are another day,
Smiling politely at people we pass in the street going about their daily business,
As we go about ours,
I mean what’s the point? Why have we built this existence for ourselves?
Were born then spend the next 16 years learning at school then we leave and spend the next 49 years at work then if were lucky we get 10 or so years to retire and actually enjoy being alive,
I mean sure we have little perks in life like a nice car and surround ourselves with gadgets and gizmos to make it all more bearable,
That we can only buy if we follow the system set out above but if you ask me 90% of the human race seems to of lost the point of being a living breathing animal,
When you come down to it that’s all we are ANIMALS,
Just like lions or tiger, monkeys and birds,
You don’t see them learning and working?
I know what you’re thinking, “That’s what separates man from beast”
Well I can’t really argue with that,
Can I?
You know when you get home from work after you have cooked some dinner and settle down in front of the TV and you see some documenty about a tribe who live miles from the advanced world,
They don’t follow the same system we do yet they’re alive, happy, and im not sure on this but it seems like they have no crime and they all work as a team,
That’s what we use to be like until we “bettered” ourselves
Im not so sure we took the right road?
Yes we have technology and warm houses, running water etc but we also have murderers paedophiles and countless other bad things that im afraid to say we have created in our bid to make the world a better place,
If we could wipe the slate clean and start again I think I would try and keep the simple things you see that tribe on TV doing like building your own house with the help of your neighbours growing vegetables and keeping animals for your area having a social point like a big meeting hut/house where your tribe/neighbours meets to discuss important things,
Im not talking about living in the jungle and prancing round with spears im all for technology but im also for actually living my life and not spending all my time learning at school so I can go to work and pay the government all my money so they can then screw me over buy raising the tax on every item I buy to make my life feel just slightly worthwhile!
Im sure my system would have flaws but the best thing about it is we can actually spend time doing things together no longer does the dad have to miss his son/daughters first steps because he’s at work so some government official can buy another yacht community spirit would be alive,
Just like when your Nan use to tell you “I remember when you could leave your front door unlocked”

The point of this is that there is no point and we were never supposed to figure that out. But we were different - we became self aware and created all of this for ourselves. It's a credit to ourselves that we managed to build and invent all of the amazing things around us.

Yes a tribe has a better life but look at the amazing complexity of some of the Victorian technology, then look how far we've come now.

The reason tribes help each other out and are content living the way they are is because they don't strive for more. Western inventors make their lives trying to find new amazing ways of doing things and creating and finding out new things. Tribes and animals don't do that. The reason there is so much corruption in the world is because we strive to create, invent, and become powerfull - tribes don't have that goal in life.

Believe it or not you are exactly the same you were born like it. The only reason you posted that is because like all Westerners you wanted to do something with your life do something different and show how good you are so you posted and thought about this in the hope no one before you had. Tribes don't even worry about this sort of thing thats the difference.

We have built this existence for our selves, because we have the intelligence to do so. If we still lived like tribes in the jungle, life would be very difficult, as we would have to go out to hunt food, of which there would be very little, especially in the U.K. just a few rabbits, hedgehogs and badgers, and the occasional deer. There would be an aw full lot of people after the same few animals. I think most of us would die off. Although there would be a good team spirit among individual tribe or families. Perhaps people should spend more time with their families. Some people spend all there time making money to keep their families, but spend very little time with their families. When your young is the time to work, because that's when your most capable of it. But we need to put some time aside to enjoy our children and families. Getting the right balance is the key, I think.
With out present day technology we would not be on Y.A. No computers or phone, no communication or only on a one to one basis. Would it be wise to throw all this away to live as a primitive tribe. I think they have the same problems we have, with conflicts within their own families and tribes and wars with other tribes and even with materialism, with arguments over who's spear belongs to who, who has the most food , etc. Really I think there's not much difference between us and them except that we have progressed further along the road of technology.

the simpler= the happier, i'd say; sometimes knowing less is a blessing. those tribes probably don't have time for anything apart from their everyday work and activities, they're carefree and don't bother about what goes on outside their community. our race could never go back to that because it would be too much of a shock, but we can learn from other cultures about a more relaxed life.

about your point of doing things together...i'd say it all goes like this:

more and more attractive products available on the market lead to more greed and a bigger desire for money, which forces both parents to work more and longer to satisfy their appetites. thus while their parents are absent most of the time children are left without love, comfort and guidance and get raised by television/bad company and godknowswhatelse. they grow up into people who learnt that the only firm value in life is money and don't give much value to warmth/love/happiness. and then the cycle repeats.

today's society demands from us that we always have the newest cellphones, trendiest clothes and all the latest gadgets...companies who sell these things are more and more satisfied as time goes by, but we will never be as long as we continue with our extremely materialist way of thinking.

Jees, man ,go and get laid and chill out!!!!

I have to agree with you about the simple things in life,it would be lovely not too have the feeling of pressure to have things when it comes to new gadgets, etc.
Unfortunately the world is always changing and not always for the best,I would like to get all the peodos, murderers, rapists and kill the lot of them.
Don`t you think though, that as a kid you don`t see all the dangers, but as an adult you do.The world was probably as bad when we were kids, but kids don`t have the same aspect of fear and danger that you get when you`re a "grown up"

I agree with you on some of your points, the world does seem to be "out of control. But some of the things you say you'd do still goes on in the US of A. Small town living, country living, we still plant our gardens, the men go hunting for meat, some cut firewood in exchange for things they need, country living is still alot of bartering, not everybody feels the need for computers or cell phones. And as for the crime you talk about, when I was a kid, your neighbors weren't "locked up in their houses" watching TeVo or whatever, everybody was outside doing things so they kept an eye on things that were going on. I'm sure alot of the pedofile stuff went on in earlier years, but those were the kind of things nobody would EVER talk about like they do now.

You might enjoy the book "The Paleolothic Prescription". The first half is about diet, as in eating correctly according to our evolutionary biochemistry, but the rest discusses some of the areas you touch on, as in living more simply in smaller, closely-knit communities and how this is far more benficial.

Well, most of us feel the same way. We are all like robots, almost as bad.
You can live simply if you choose. A lot of people follow that road.
My husband never did overtime because he wanted the break not the money, nearly all those who kept working are dead now. A lot of good the extra money did for them.

You're sooo right!

I was telling this to my wife last night!.....
WE ARE ANIMALS!!

We are wasting our potential by comparing ourselves to animals and listing the things that distiguish us from them.

We should be lifting our head to see the essential.

We are free, real, living on a huge planet in a huge galaxy...the sky's the limit!

We should be studying. Not just from the intellect but from the emotion....what harms our planet? What doesn't?
What harms our mind......

And I think captivity harms our mind.

And captivity is what we've made for ourselves.

It's like the matrix....we've built a huge system......;-((

So you think that "living of the land" is the way to go huh? You realize that it is a lot of work to be self sufficient. More work than you may realize. You're not just gonna go out into the wilderness and build a cabin then plant some crops and spend the rest of the day playing. You work to survive, as animals do. Your talking about a different side of the same coin.

I like what you wrote. It reminded me of my thoughts some years back. I don't quite live "the good life" but I after reading a book
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Downshifting-Guide-Happier-Simpler-Living/dp/0340707461/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1195810283&sr=1-3
I made some changes in my life. We dont have a lot of comodities that others might consider essential, we grow our own vegies, we don't live a rat race and we find time to stop and enjoy life as we watch it pass. Life doesnt have to be like you described it and I am greatful that mine isnt. You sound like you have no goal, focus or purpose to your life....good luck with whatever journey you chose to take.
