He went to play for the Denver Broncos after the 49ers gave up on him and his ankle and knee problems. He thought that Shannahan could make him productive again, but he kept suffering from injuries and his body couldn't do it anymore.
Hearst was a good player, but had two bad breaks. First, he was drafted by the Cardinals and second, he had that freak ankle injury. Without those two things going against him, I believe he would have been on a Super Bowl team.

He is now out of the NFL, and has been since 2004. He left the 49ers back in 03 and signed with the broncos for a year but now is done and living single as the father of 3 kids. He was a great player, its too bad playrs like him have to have an end to their careers.

He got seriously injured in 2001...when he came back from it he was still good but never the same.
