He wants to issue National ID cards, but when Republicans asked him how he would do that without raising taxes and enlarging the government, he said he would put Mastercard and Visa in charge of our national identities and let them print the cards and keep track of us...
Isn't that just brilliant?

scubadog - I saw him say this on CSPAN... but here's a link where he makes reference to it (without mentioning Visa and Mastercard like he did on the campaign trail in response to criticism):

Well of course, another money making opportunity for business and for the right price I'm sure Mastercard and Visa would love to do it and don't think for a moment it won't be lots of federal money making it happen.
Another asinine day in the life of Mitt the Mormon Romney.

Brilliant. Just think of how quickly they will be able to locate the deadbeats that don't pay their monthly minimums.
Romney's plan will also establish a good relationship between the US government and Master Card and Visa. Then, when no country wants to buy our war debt, the feds can charge literally charge it.

Sounds stupid to me. We already have ID cards. Our social security card, our drivers licenses, our birth certificates, etc.
Why bring Visa and Mastercard into it. They may not be around in 40 or 50 years.

Well its smart because in order for the Government to continue and the US to survive they need the help of big business . The sad part is it will be big business to blame when the shh it hits the fan , but who is big business anyway ? How do you fight big business ? Don't buy the products ? Ok but then we would see the US economy collapse . See my point ?

It's time to reboot the government.
They are supposed to be public servants, not public dictators.
Oh well. No wonder everyone wants to see the fall of the New Roman Empire. You'd just wouldn't want to be around when it happens though... Just ask the Visigoths.

I think you seem to be missing the sarcasm involved.
