Have you ever just said, "Thank You for stopping by. I know you are here, but I can't help you because I'm not comfortable with you yet. So, do yourself & me a favor & move on to someone else who is ready to assist you. I am not. Maybe someday, but not today. I wish you the best in your search. Thank you & know that I care. Please leave." ........ That is all you have to say.

I believe when a person gets fearful there is the chance his/her senses maybe become more acute as a result of chemical changes resulting from the fear.
Chances are you are either paying more attention to the noises or else hearing what you wouldn't otherwise notice or else, too, there's the chance it is just coincidence.
Any chance there's a mouse (or more than one) in the house, and when you get quiet it gets active; but if you're up and around and putting lights on it hides again?
I get noises in my house even when I'm not "thinking spooky". They just happen - humidity changes make noises start, walls sound like they're cracking, etc. Heat coming on after not being on makes all kinds of noises.
As long as you can rule out animals or people, just assume your walls are cracking or else the heat is doing something and relax. (You're right to stay up and get yourself out of the spooky frame-of-mind, though.)
Any chance your heat gets lowered before people go to bed, and the house has gotten colder, so the heat kicks back on a little around the time you're trying to sleep? I don't believe in them, and you shouldn't either.

Their energy causes a natural fear-like emotion in us. The same for other beings of spirit. The best you can do is get accustomed to it and expect it. It seems if your energy is a lot greater than theirs the effect is less. But if you try meditation to increase your energy remember it also opens you up.

There is not any reason to fear ghosts....... have you ever heard about anyone beat up by one? Most .... people think are just lost souls. Get some sage and burn it around your home it will help cleanse it. If this fails and your still bothered get a cement block and wear it around your neck for one week .... this is sure to cause all ghosts to leave you alone

Hello Rich
Gain knowledge about your own spiritual nature. It is natural to feel fear of the unknown, it is placed in us not only from our subconscious need for survival but also from our upbringings.
You yourself are spirit, there is nothing to fear.
The living are far more of a problem than the dead!

There is solid evidence for Ghosts. The White House may be the most haunted place in America, along with Williamsburg, Va
Even Martin Luther saw ghosts. But, If you just tell them to leave in Jesus name, they go.

well, i think it's about playing a tennis match with your mind. learn how to trick/beat it.
buy a bracelet or a necklace or whatever pendant - the more ancient look the better - and try to convince yourself that having it around you keeps them at a decent distance and they cannot do you any harm.
they can't anyway.

for pd....I think it's more true that "ignorance is bliss" sometimes. If there are ghosts around and you don't know it...you don't have fear. My fear is from realizing they were around and weren't good. (I can handle the good ones being around...but how can you tell??)(pd..don't answer that. I know already that you can't tell!!)

might this all be in your head? i mean if you are fearful of these "ghosts" your mind will play tricks on you. which will probably make you even more fearful and paranoid about "ghosts". get a hold of yourself and realize that ghosts cannot harm you. you should be more fearful of humans.
also, if you're seriously that afraid. try a cleansing.
