sometimes my mom works 7 in the morning till 3 in the midnight and everyday she will work 4 in the afternoon till 7 in the morning and she gets paid 16 dollers an hour and she told me working to much hours is illegal and im wondering why?

Is she working for a company or is she self employed. Most states have labor laws to prevent companies from taking advantage of their employees. A well balanced healthy lifestyle is dependent on some leisure time.

That's a 20 hour day. That'd kill you, eventually. Human beings need 8 hours of sleep to stay healthy. AFAIK, all states put some limits on the ability of employers to kill thier workers.
But, there's nothing illegals about working overtime, though 20 hours puts you well into double-overtime. If you're not getting /paid/ overtime, your employer is likely doing something illegal (check the laws in your state). It might even be illegal to pull more than 16 hrs a day in your state.

I know they were talking about penalizing people who are working overtime by not giving them time and a half. This is just another strategy for the rich to stay rich and make the poor stay poor in my opinion
