Many of the professional cyclists shave their legs but I don't know about armpits. Perhaps gay guys will.

Some guys that work their legs out shave the hair on thier legs to show off the muscle and some guys that are really into their bodys will shave thier armpits along with their chest and arms and back. I hate it when a guy shaves any part of their body. It is not masculine.

If you don't do any sports that would be kind of weird... However.. If you swim, or well most swimmers who care alot about their time and speed will shave their hair as it creates less drag in the water.. For wrestling... You can TRIM your armpit hair so you still look like a strong tought guy man, but for your legs, dont worry about it.. They go for your body and if they ever go for your legs they'll just grab your leg, not its hair...

I've done it. It's part of the bodybuilding scene, and is done so that the definition of muscle tissue isn't hidden behind a layer of body hair. It also helps you tan more evenly and deeply, since the UV rays are against straight skin, rather than having to penetrate hair first. Watch a Sylvester Stallone movie sometime, and you'll notice he's shaved. Arnold, ditto... although, in later films, he allowed himself some chest hair (more like peach fuzz).
As others have stated, many swimmers will do it to streamline their bodies and reduce drag against the water. Some bike riders will do it to reduce wind resistance (it's actually the reason for those goofy-looking pants they wear, as well).
I don't know where one of your answerers was coming from when he said that you have to be more careful in staying clean because the body has less of a way of dealing with sweat odor... When my armpits were clean shaven, there was no hair to absorb and hold the persperation, and I hardly ever had problems with odor. (Spreading clear gel deodorants on a freshly shaven pit isn't a pleasant experience, however.)

Some men shave their armpits because it helps reduce odor. I did that once because I just couldn't get my armpits clean enough. But it was difficult to do because of the large pores and rough skin. I've seen men that had shaved legs and they weren't doing it for sports. Some men do it if for cleanliness or for the clean look. But often men who shave their legs are doing it because they want to express the girlish side of themselves. If a guy is hairy enough it just isn't worth shaving. It is too much of a losing battle. You just have to go with it and look like big foot.
The reason bicycle racers shave their legs has to do with making it easier to clean their road rash wounds when they crash their bicycles. It has nothing to do with streamlining.

Gosh, I couldn't imagine also having to shave my legs in addition to my face, which takes long enough time already.

Some men do, and i have done my entire body. It is not considered a normal thing for men as the hair is there for a purpose and it helps handle sweat and odors. Without the hair, there is no means to handle the odors generated by the body. You have to make sure you keep yourself very clean when shaving this hair. The first thing is to ask yourself as to why you want to do shave them, and for what purpose it will serve.

Yes, they do. My grandfather worked on the railroad and used to shave under his arms so the odor from all that sweating wouldn't be so bad.
I was also friends with a guy in college who shaved his legs for cycling.

I have some strange spots on my chest and back where the hair is quite coarse and long. They are also very itchy. I have tried shaving them and that seems to help with the itchiness. I don't know if its related but when I let my dogs lick me, that is where they usually lick.
