I'm rather fond of surprises but I wanted to sneak a peek some times anyways.
We (me and my family) were all ADD and stuff but didn't know it,.. so we'd some how manage to forget to get the Calender for a few days or we'd skip a few days. So I would end up with chocolate from more then one day from time to time.
Mmm,.... those Chocolates were so delicious,.. who knew that with time Chocolates would go down hill instead of getting better :(
The company that made them probably doesn't exist. I very very rarely see the Calenders around here any more,.. maybe once every 3 years and it's by a horribly cheap dollar store brand >.<
Damn you, you are tortureing me with memories of good chocolate!
Added: Aloha,.. there are wooden ones I see from time to time. They are like a knick knack or hobbies thing. What they look like is they have nothing but drawers,.. over 31 Drawers or enough so you can place the dates physically on the little drawers like they appear on your Calender. You can fill them with small toys, money,.. or if you have a concern about them hogging down Chocolate, put one in the Day's Drawer after they go to school,.. only that specific one, then when they get home they can open it after Dinner or after home work. These will be decorated but maybe you can make one from a thing for hobbies. I think you are supposed to put a note in each drawer for them to read. Like a thoughtful phrase or a quote from your faith's teachings. [These are wood and not the size of a dresser. More like the size of a board games box with twice the depth]

I actually don't like the kind with the chocolate in them. That's the only kind I can ever find and I don't think it's a good idea for my six year old to have chocolate before school!
The advent calendar I had when I was a kid was used over and over again every year. It just had a picture behind each little window. I wish I could find one like that for my son.

The best Advent calenders I have seen are German ones. They have small toys in them, or parts of a kit which can be completed once all the pieces are taken out.
But if taking the next day's chocolate is too tempting, I always remember the motto: A Mars A Day Helps Your Teeth Rot Away.

I don't have mine yet - I'm waiting to buy mine and my boyfriend's on December 1. He's such a chocoholic (never met one like him) that it wouldn't last until December if I bought them now!
I'm a total geek - I was one of those kids who NEVER touched the next day's door because it would ruin the whole thing! Haha. So I never had that little devil on my shoulder. Even now, I hate ruining any surprises for Christmas, including eating the next day's chocolate early.

When I was a child my parents made my advent calendar. It was made of wood and had little drawers to open for every day of advent. They put little presents or sweets in each drawer and I was only allowed to open one per day. I have to admit, I did sneak a look in some of the other drawers when they weren't looking though!

No, when I was a kid they didn't have advent calendars with chocolates in. We used to look forward to guessing which picture was behind the door

I listened to the devil , i ate them all and carefully closed the little windows back up, i thought that i was so sneaky that no one would notice. My mum noticed straight away and i wasnt allowed to eat chocolate until christmas. My older brother enjoyed making a great show of eating his chocolate and made sure i was there everytime he opened it up.

you adore being a Christian so as which you would be able to get delicious chocolate? i understand Jesus loves anybody, yet while somebody positioned chocolate in basic terms before me, and that i became into Christ, i would not be so happy approximately loss of life for that guy or woman's sins... in case you realize what I advise.
