All that is needed is to live by the ten commandments.

They should be the laws of every land or religion.

The two that come to mind is thou shalt not kill
And vengeance is mine saith the lord god.

I think that the EPA-OBD II Vehicle Emissions Inspection Law needs to be modified. As it stands right now, it is entirely possible to fail an Emissions Inspection for not emitting enough Polluting Exhaust Emissions ! All Gasoline powered Vehicles in the USA from ' 96 to the present must operate at 14.7 Parts of Air to1 Part of Fuel. Any change whatsoever, even if Emissions are lowered, will result in a failed Annual Vehicle Emissions Inspection.Do a Google Search on Tom Ogle, and you'll see why this insane Law, that only benefits the big Oil Corporations, and was passed during the Clinton Administration, with Al Gore's blessing, needs to be changed.

its a very interesting question but remember, society is diverse with people varying in customs and beliefs as well as general outlook and perceptions on life.

take for example tolerance for homosexuality. Its more or less the 'norm' these days in the western developed parts of the globe. now take a trip to Saudi Arabia or Iran and try walking around in Riyadh or Tehran wearing a 'Gay and Proud' t-shirt.

laws affect different people in different ways. when talking about 'society' as a whole, we can apply universal core beliefs upheld by all and make a law that one thinks would be abided and respected by ALL and not just a portion of society.

i just felt it would be wise to bring up this point, that law is quite a tricky subject given the nature of social groups , country to country. do you meant what laws in the democratic would benefit society ? what about places where governments fail repeatedly, failed states run by warlords - i.e Afghanistan in the past, what there ? wanna write a law for them ?

i think every citizen should uphold a moral duty of 'respecting' one another. society on the whole would benefit from this, too many rude people out there - disrespect breeds disrespect, when somebody wrongs you you lose faith in people. maybe 'love and respect' ? its not really rocket science that these two things are at the core of a peace amongst people, interestingly these two are universal truths applicable to all of mankind - and not found in any law book, rather, religious texts. 'love thy neighbour (a little bit more)' = my new law for a crumbling society. :-)

I would introduce an international law to prevent anybody anywhere serving in the armed forces if they were under the age of fifty and in the event of war breaking out the two heads of state must first meet in an unarmed contest to the death.
Instant world peace.

I recently came across a case where a man (pervert) went to a children's swim meet. He was video taping the private areas of the children's bathing suits (by zooming in). The parents called police when they realized what was going on. It was a public place and he was not trespassing. The act of videotaping people (even children) in public was not illegal. The police were powerless to affect an arrest.

The trouble is that it is difficult to make a law to address this situation. You can't make it illegal to video tape in public. How would the evening news cover a highschool foot ball game? You can't make it illegal to video tape private areas because how would you define it? What if a parent video taped thier child foot to head in a bathing suit?

Its a tall order, but if you could word this law well (to make this guy's action illegal while allowing for legitimate video taping) -it would be the one I would enact.
