we work 24 x 7, it does'nt make any difference as our industry demands such situations.
So lets work for the nation building which includes ourselves.

I believe this question is more targetted on the government sector. This has to be reduced to 5-days work week provided it addresses the following issues and counter measures.
When it means 6-days a week the staff work 1/2 day on saturdays. This is really very in-efficient. Not much of stuff can be accomplished in the half day work where the real work that is carried out is worth 1-2 hours.
All we're working for drives back to happiness at family. 5-days a week means they could have more valueable time with their family.
If we see in terms of economy, people will start going aorund places bringing their family. Tourism industry will flourish and the spending will increase. When there are more people to visit places, the standard will rise. This will help the hotel and catering industry and probably more.
But this doesn't mean they work less and take home the same pay. The work hours need to be compensated on the normal work days and the efficiency need to be improved.
Need not say much about the private sector b'cos that boils down to the profitability of the organization. So they'll eventually optimise.

Its a ridiculous thinking to make a 6 day working week in private companies, where people are working for nearly 12 hours a day. And after this busy schedule they hardly find any time for them self and their family. The two holidays are actually compensating for these losses. After all if a person is not mentall happy may be of any reason whether he is not getting adequate time to spend with his family or may be he is becoming a workaholic person it will ultimately affect his work and his productivity.

If the private companies will make a compulsory day shifts of 6-8 hours like the Govt organisation then it will be valid to work for 6 days.

To work for 5 days was actually a healthy trend started by the intellectual to help a employee stay fit physically as well as mentally.
And above all the 5 days work is not a matter of concern for private organisations, it keeps a employee depending on its productivity, whether he is giving it in 5 days or 6 days. And still there are people who are working extra hours on Saturdays and Sundays also to to give the productivity even if they are getting paid for 5 days work week.
So making a work week 6 days only hamper the employee and his family, and ultimately the organisation and at last the society.

6 - day work week is not a welcoming one and let we analyse why it was a 5 - day work which is being followed now;
1.Relaxation is a must for any person which will improve, increase and induce the efficiency to contribute more what ever be the nature of work.
2.Ultimately the quality and standards are improved and maintained.
3.There is a clear cut demarcation between official(5 days) and personal(2 days) work which should not clash each other from the concentration point of view.
4.If Home front is not in order definitely the Officialdom will be a failure.
5.Diminishing Marginal Rate of Return concept will start operate when the number of working hours goes on and on
which is uneconomical for the organisation.
Suggestion for the Full Installed Capacity utilisation:
1By adopting various Shift System for a Day, Week and Month the Installed Capacity utilisation could be increased.
2Unemployment problem to a certain extent is addressed because of creating additional employment opportunity.
3Society as well as Govt. as a whole reap the entire benefits out of the above because of booming economy with the peacefulness every where.

It is always recommended to have a 5-days work week with 40 hours for all the executives. Productivity will increase if people take rest. There is something called Resting Metabolism Rate (RMR) and if we take adequate rest then productivity will increase. Having work-life balance is the key to success.

There is an old saying customers are the king and employees get paid from the customers pay. However, companies has to realise that employees take care of their customers; without employees any organizations' customers cannot be handled alone by the top management.

I always say employees first and; if the top management takes care of their employees then in turn the employees will take care of their customers. And, if they don't then probably they can initiate a Disciplinary Action Procedure after understanding & educating their employees.

People has to be treated as people. Whether the organization is working 24 hours 7 days a week or not it does not mean that employees should work the same way. It is the top managements responsibility to ensure the proper resource management is being taken care of.

Most management thinks that if they make 5 days a work week then their employees will start off their own business. They are always insecure. Most employees do not want to start off their own business in the weekends. However, they want to spend the time with their family or even update their knowledge or even take some rest to prepare for the Mondays.

Even if I become an entrepreneur; I will always ensure that work week is only 5 days a week and another 2 days is weekly off. I really do not mind whether an employee is going to start off his own business or take rest or spend his time with the family as long as it does not affect the organisational policies.

6 Day Work Week

2016-11-16 16:26:33 · answer #6 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

In IT sector 7day work week is common. It is good to hear. but actually 6 day week work will not increase the production. It will reduce the quality. You have to have a compulsory quality control for the work done on the 6 th day work. Also the company will loose the power, A/c and other energies. unless the organisation is working for 24/7 service.

Even otherwise you are forced to work 6 day work week if the project / product work is on. If the organisation forces it may have -ve impact. If the employee feels the responsibility he will perform 7 day work week also happily and enjoys it.

My suggestion is to make the employee responsible for his assigned work not by making 6 day work week.

Also as per the labor law any employee to be working 40 hours a week. means monday to Friday per day 8 hrs means 5 X 8 = 40 HRs. But Knowingly or unknowingly the employee works for 48Hours per week. because of work load/ thrust. If you make 6 day week means he has to work around 56 hrs.or more. Is that right ?

I won't agree with 6 days week. Most of IT companies are working with 5 days week since very long time. Now, just because of reduction of dollar price (few Rupees) they are starting work for 6 days a week. This is not fare. They just see their benefits and not of employees. And the fact is that even if we have 5 days week, we can get call from office anytime (24x7). We hardly work for 8 hours (9-10 is usual) and leave office. So, even 5 days week is more than 6 days week. Now, if they start working 6 days, what will happen to the IT Professionals (E-Labors) ?????

Six days concept is good one but if it is seven days it is more better. It should be like now some banks are serving that all the employees should not be come in the office there should be attendance as per the requirement 0f the work load and people should be all rounder it should not be there that this is work of other table/person and I don't know. It should be taken from the Army signals centers that they are working on shifts and no body can say I don't know the work of other table. If country or society wants to develop then there should be trials and changing daily in workshops or there should be Research and Developments departments which should give daily reports and outputs to the people of the country as well as of the world. Simply wasting money on useless persons is crime on the part of govertment and top bureaucrates. We were fighting for democracy but democracy has not given the fruits as expected by the freedom fighters.

A six-day work a week means that on 6 days' a week the company does business with customers. The saying is : A business is a business is a business. And those who do not want to be in business have no business to be in business.

Stakeholders, shareholders are interested in making a return out of their capital. Of course, in their business the employees have to be viewed with a human angle. So, as per labour laws prevailing in their own respective countries, they will have to give such number of holidays per week or freedom to stay away on full pay (leave) as per contract, again, as per laws of the land. As long as Employers abide by this, I do not understand, how people other than stakeholders can have a say with regard to "whether the company should be having a 6 day week or 7 day week".
Having said this, I must say, that among workers, only around 30 per cent work, another 30 per cent pretend to work, the remaining 40 per cent are in between the prior two categories. It is the job of the supervisors to ensure that the 3rd category does not the 2nd way.
Coming back to the subject, I am of the view that companies who are directly providing services must work all the 7 days, a week, of course, stipulating such rules that any worker does have a day's leave at end of every six working days.

I am of the opinion that this question has to be answered in separate ways as applicable to Government Organisations, Private/Public Companies & MNC etc. as all of them follow different set of rules/regulations for their employees working pattern.

In India a few years back the government changed the rules for the employees from 06 days working days to 05 days and this as I could observe had not created or suffered the work out put and whereas the employees could make it possible to complete their given/routine task with in this changed work environment. Therefore, in this case if a given previlege is withdrawn without valid/authentic reasons can cause unrest and displeasure among them.

In cases of other sectors, the working pattern is different from Company to company based on their rules/regulations set by the respective Managements and only the willing employees are taken into their work. Therefore, the employees have no other option than to follow the accepted working norms. But if the management review their earlier decisions and apply a positive approach with out affecting the Companie's motto in the working norms for their employees which can include a consideration for 05 days a week work may boost up their work culture and a harmonious Industrial Relations.

Therefore, I am of the opinion that the employees first make up their mind to learn the work culture, accept the much needed devotion in their working aptitude, then there may not be any necessity to have a 06 days work in a week.
