Now that Hanlon has been fired, who do you think will be the next full time coach of my beloved Caps? I have been saying to my season ticket holder buddies that I think it may be Pat Quinn but now I am not so sure. Also, do you think it will happen this season or wait until after the season?

On a side note, I was at the game Wednesday and ran into George McPhee in between the 2nd and 3rd period in a stairwell. I was trying to be pleasant and asked him how he was doing when he responded "Not so good. I will be doing alot better when we score some damn goals!!!"

Rod Langway from what I hear is very content in his post hockey existence as a steelworker or something like that. I would like to believe that Dale Hunter would come back but that would probably be at the start of next year. I really like Bruce Boudreau. I have been to a few AHL games and he is old school and hard core. I really like his quote when he was asked about replacing Hanlon

"I haven't really had a lot of time to focus on too much, except that it's unfortunate because Glen was a good friend of mine. But at the same time, I've sort of waited 32 years for this opportunity"

LITY brings up some very good points, as usual. So get Quinn.
Actually, I think Bruce Boudreau could stick or at least get a long, long look-see. He's had a lot of success in the minors and deserves a shot somewhere. He's proven he can work with young players which suits the Caps needs.

He was replaced on an interim basis by Bruce Boudreau (an AHL coach)

Not sure what kind of coach he make or if even interested but how about Rod Langway. Long time Caps captain, fan favorite. Can't do any worse than Hanlon. Pat Quinn wouldn't be a bad choice.

Hell for that matter the second coming of Jim Schoenfeld would do a better job than what Hanlon did.

edit. I like the idea of bringing in Dale Hunter. He was always my fav Caps player.

I think that Rod Langway is a bad choice for the new coach...Hiring alumni does not always work out...look at the oilers...they make it to the Cup in 06 and then cant make it into the playoffs in 07...i know the roster was overhauled and they traded smytty but still no excuses...macT should have been let go a while ago along with all of the alumni on the coaching staff: Charlie Huddy, Kevin Lowe and others need to be taken out and replaced with real coaches...PEACE!!!

Now that Leonsis has given McPhee a vote of confidence by saying the problem was the coach and not the players, McPhee can rest and look for a coach...........preferably in London, Ontario............like a Dale Hunter type of guy....maybe even Dale Hunter himself!

Pat Quinn is known for his lack of patience with young guys. If Quinn was coach, Alzner would get traded for McCabe, Ovechkin would get traded for Sundin, he would bring Domi out of retirement, etc

Dale Hunter has been very successful with the London franchise, he's a fan favourite in Washington (or did the team retire his number for fun - I'm thinking not), and in my eyes, Dale Hunter is the man for the job!

Whether he'd want it is a different story, but he loved Washington, Washington loved him, and if there was ever a perfect fit (aside from Denis in Chicago that is) Hunter and Washington are it!

Mike, I have to disagree with you on this one. Hartley was deeply and thoroughly despised by his Thrashers. Their performance under him at the start of the season and the subsequent turnaround after his dismissal is proof of that fact.

Hartley wears out his welcome because he is arrogant, demeaning and the one cup he did win is owed to the roster he had in Colorado.

The Caps need a coach to teach and nurture a youthful nucleus. Who that is, I don't know, but the fate of the interim guy through this season or beyond obviously depends on what he can get out of the group he has.

If the team improves through the calendar year, my guess is that McPhee maintains status quo. However, if the squad continues to underachieve and renders the season unsalvageable, the GM might bring in his new guy to get accustomed to his players before the end of the year.

So far I'm liking Boudreau. He's 1 and 1, he's clearly utilizing Backstrom well, and today's game was the best I've seen all season, so i wouldn't be in a rush to get rid of him. After that i would bring in one of our retired greats like Stevens, Langway, Hunter, Oats, or Bondra. I know pretty much all those guys have jobs and contracts already, they're just who i thought of off the top of my head.

They have been one of it not the most overrated teams in the league for the past couple years, personally looking at their line up apart from Ovechkin they are a very average team. They just got horribly outshot 40-22 tonight in their loss to the Leafs.

I agree with CME- Boudreau will get a chance to run with it.

How about Bob Hartley? I think he was wrongly fired by the Avalanche, and he was wrongly fired by the Thrashers. I think he'd fit greatly in Washington.

They fired him ON THANKSGIVING?

Those Washington Crapitals are truly heartless....
