I thought it was a really interesting movie. Just watched it with my girlfriend and it really opened up my understanding of the nature of this mental disorder. I'd like to hear people's perspective on this movie and on pedophilia in general.

I'm looking for educated answers from people with an intelligent understanding of what this disorder or "paraphilia" actually is. I don't want to hear any "cliches of hate" and people talking about how sick it is. We all know it's sick and wrong, we all know you all should watch out for your kids, we all know how immoral pedophilia really is... people please, save the cliches! I'm posting this question to get some facts and EDUCATED OPINIONS on this matter.

i've discovered that "pedophilia" is a widely misused term. they use the term "pedophilia" to describe sexual urges towards minors between the ages of zero&&whatever the state age of consent is. but actually, pedophilia is is sexual attraction to prepubescent&&peripubescent people. ephebophilia is sexual attraction to all adolescents, hebophilia is sexual attraction to adolescents who have not quite completed puberty, nepiophilia is sexual attraction to infants ages zero to three, &&necropedophilia is, youu guessed it, sexual attraction to the corpses of children.
it actually really bothers me when people use the term, "pedophilia" incorrectly. but who want to memorize the list all of the different paraphilas towards children&&minors.
blarg. it's obnoxious.

The husband-and-wife team of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick did a fine and understated job in this off-beat drama about a reformed pedophile trying to help kids from another man. We enjoyed its quiet effectiveness.
Pedophilia is a term that is abused and somewhat overused. In many cultures what we call pedophilia is considered natural - down to a certain age of course. An adult male can cohabitate with a boy and it is not frowned upon, for example. The US culture has always been too uptight compared to even Europe, let alone primitive tribes alive today.
In some cases, the laws should be changed to consenting teenagers and adults, say 16 years and up. Even lower perhaps. Of course, it is not unlawful for 10-year-olds to have sex with each other, but throw in an adult, then there is a problem, and at that age I should think so!
As with many other things it takes a few twisted adults to make the law a huge penalty for many other adults with underage people who are consenting. In no way would I ever condone predatory adults seeking children for sex. But I do feel the laws are too strict and the ages too high. America needs to grow up a bit. And the sicker (not the best word, I know) members of the population need to be better regulated!

I think that people not just men but anyone who's a pedophile is someone who has trouble relating to adults on an adult level. For some reason they have not matured emotionally enough to be able to have an sincere adult relationship with another adult whether it be an woman or a man.
So they turn to children because it's the easiest way to get their need for closeness filled. I think on some level they are able to deny the damage that they do to the children and all they feel is the closeness that they on some level hope the child feels also.
I think that is why you will find some of them keep the children with them as in the case of the young boy found earlier this summer. The child becomes a substitute for an adult and they form the type of relationship with the child they should have formed with an adult.

The recidivism rate is something like 90-99%---to me, that means incurable.
Pedophiles shouldn't be allowed to live in the general population. The risk is too great.
Even one child molested or murdered is too many.
What interests me is the environment in which children are reared: the cycle of abuse-emotional-sexual-physical
-control and feelings of being unloved and abandonment.
These all play an important role as to what actions,
lifestyles, and crimes a person commits as an adult.
Think about the baits and lures pedophiles use as traps,
and outright kidnapping, requires thought and planning.
They don't just decide to do this, all of a sudden, in just a
day.
Incarcerations in many states are not severe enough and sending these people to jail does nothing positive for them. They need to be sentenced to mental institutions, that are lock up facilities like jail, for life, no escape, no parole, ever.

former Inspector General Gerald Walpin is not confused and disoriented. if you have watch an episode of Glenn Beck earlier this year, Gerald Walpin was a guest on his show and Glenn did give the sanity exam to him. Gerald Walpin proved himself that he was not insane, confused, and disoriented but alert, logical, and focused to what is going on. Gerald Walpin was fired because of doing his job and uncovering the truth about one of Obama's friends and how they were stealing the money.
