My brother passed away in a car wreck 4 months back and my family has his laptop. The problem is we cant even turn it on, it has a thumb print reader security system on it and it prompts for his thumb print which is obviously unavailable everytime we attept to turn it on. We havnt been able to figure out how to bypass it and would like to know if there is even a way too, and how to if there is. As soon as you turn it on it immeadiatly asks for a print scan, it doesnt even turn on fully, so we cant get past it. Help please. Thank You.

Keep Press the F8 key as soon the computer starts. This will start the safe mode. Once in the safe mode, the laptop should not ask you for the print as there are two accounts on the computer now. The new is the Administrator

Open the Administrator account and set up a new account and delete your brother's account. This should help. Restart the computer and the computer should open with the new account and without a finger print scan

there is a mythbusters episode about this...
what you must do is get his fingerprint off something and make it visible by puting the fingerprinted object in a sealed container with some glue in tinfoil, wait a day or so then take really fine black powder of some sort. scan it with a computer and enlarge it so that you can go over it with a marker, scan the big copy and shrink it back down to normal size and print.
put the print of the fingerprint over the scan and press with your finger and it should reconize it as him....if that doesn't work see if you can find the episode of mythbusters and they have more steps, also you could try e-mailing the mythbusters if all else fails

i'm very sorry for your loss, you can try to find something that may have his fingerprint on it and get the print onto a piece of paper...it really depends on how good the thing is, you may be able to get by it with just the fingerprint in ink or you may need a rubber print

There should be a password option too, maybe try guessing the password. Or if all the information doesn't matter, you can run the recovery disk and it will delete everything and return it to its "Out of the box" settings.
I hope this helps

Sorry man
Does it get past the bios?
If so, I'd boot from a windows CD then format and reinstall windows. If you don't have a windows CD, I'd definitely check out ubuntu.

OMG I would not want my family trying to get into my private stuff if I pass away unexpectedly. It can't be done... that's why he chose that kind.
