It's said that as the brain cools the body systems slowly shut down and one falls asleep never to awaken.

That all depends:

It's been my experience that frost bite injuries are present in the hypothermia victim and these injuries (often to the hands and feet, then the legs) can be very painful. But, as stated before, delirium sets in after the patients core temperature drops below 89 degrees- comatose below 86- that makes it hard to say whether the victim feels pain in some sense, or becomes peaceful and just falls asleep.

Depending on the temperature and the level of protection, death from hypothermia can take from hours to days- the heart rate of these patients can slow below 3 beats per minute, keeping the blood flow only to vital organs. However, when these patients are re-warmed and the "frozen" blood is recirculated it can cause wide spread organ failure (which, unfortunately, is not a peaceful death)

Sorry to be so morbid, but I hope I answered your question.

They would get cold and then numb and tired, and would go into shock and or pass out and die but they have the best chances of being revived because of the slowing down kind of hypoxia that happens during hypothermia...I am not saying they couldnt lost extremities, they just have a little bit better chance of being brought back from the brink of death. Hope this helps.-Rachel.

Well it would not be fun to be really cold... so i guess you could say it hurts but then you go numb but that doesn't make it a way i would want to die even if there is no pain at all

They get numb, peaceful, calm and then warm. They fall asleep and don't wake up.

Can't speak from first hand or even second hand experience, but from what I have read the end is peaceful and painless. There are worse ways to die.

You get delirious. In most cases numbness sets in.

From what I read, it's like drifting off into la-la land. Not painful.
