if Billy Sauer and Jeff Sauer are related?

And does anyone know why Ron Mason is only ranked11th on this list?: http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/7Archives/Features/coaches_0203.htm

"A dearth of NCAA titles"... the man has the most wins of any college hockey coach ever and you rank him 11th because of "a dearth of NCAA titles?"

LITY... Ok... you made a good point... used lots of facts.... and ruined my day lol But I still think Ron Mason is the ****. Even if he isn't the greatest coach ever. Anyway, how did you find out that the Sauer's are related? :o

OMG... Kurt Sauer and Billy Sauer are related? I didn't know that... Please don't tell me they're brothers or something because I will feel like a total dolt.

If you are asking if Wisconsin's coach is related to Michigan's Billy Sauer, yes...they are 2nd cousins

As for Ron Mason, I am surprised he is as high as 11th.
- he has a losing record at the NCAA tournament
- every single coach ahead of him on the list has a higher winning percentage
- every coach ahead of him on the list has at least 2 NCAA titles (and all but 1 has a winning record at the NCAA tournament)

Those three stats right there keep him behind the previous 10. Most wins is more a record of longevity than a record of being a great coach. It's all about where you stand at the end of the year, and only once did Mason finish first.

I've known Ron for 40 years, he's a great guy, and a great coach, but I can easily make a case for each of the guys ahead of him, and I can easily make a case for two of the guys behind him and push Mason down to 13th.

Connie Mack won more games as a major league manager than anybody else (by almost 1500 wins) but you never see him on a list of the best managers in baseball history! Why? Because he also lost more games than any other manager.

Winning Percentage and post-season results are more important than total wins. And if you apply that to the NCAA, Mason ranking 11th is probably higher than he should be.

The authors of the list are Jeff Sauer (Wisconsin coach), Ken Schott, and Michael Eidelbes

I know the common relatives between Jeff and Billy (and Kurt) :)

No, I don't believe that Billy and Jeff are related (common last name)

I figured that Ron Mason would be WAY higher on the list. Funny how the author of the list, is not announced in the article. I mean, who came up with that thing to begin with?
