I always just use Krazy glue. First, wash it thoroughly with very hot water and let it air dry completely. Next, get some nail polish remover - in case of minor accidents. Then we start with the glue.
The trick is to put a thin coat on both surfaces first and let it dry completely - this will soak in a bit, but will also seal the ceramic from absorbing the glue later on. And be careful not to get any glue on your fingers, or you'll spread your fingerprints permanently all over the mug.
Once it's all completely dry, apply some more glue (not too much - you don't want it to squirt out around the edges of the join in a lump) and put the pieces together. Hold them in place accurately (they must be a good fit - no gaps) and tightly until the glue sets up.
Then you can seal the edges of the crack with a thin line of glue - this will keep any dirt, food or stains from penetrating the surface of the join and becoming permanent. Watch out for drips - if you can, keep gently rotating the mug so that drips don't get a chance to form.
Once it's fully set (I usually leave it out overnight to make sure), make sure you wash it thoroughly.
I've used this method for 20 years, and some of the mugs and plates I repaired back then are still holding together just fine. Even the dishwasher and the microwave don't seem to bother them. Just don't use it anywhere that food or drink that you're planning on consuming actually come in contact with it (handles are fine, but don't try repairing a mug that has split its bowl. I don't think the glue would cause any problems, but I don't know for sure what chemicals might possibly be dissolved into the food. Let's not take any chances, eh?)
And yes, it's finishes clear!
Good luck!

RE:
what glue should I use to fix a broken handle for a ceramic mug?
I already know about gorilla glue, is there anything that is clear? This also a very special mug...and it will be used, so getting another mug isn't the solution either....I have plenty of other ones....I want to use this one again!

Go to your hardware store and ask for PL Premium. This glue is the strongest ever and very durable. It comes in a tube and you'll need a caulking gun. Its not clear glue but if put enough on the inside where its cracked and stick it on the cup and wipe the excess off, you won't even know it was broken.

go down to home depot and buy a super glue brand two part epoxy. They have a clear one that sets up in 90 seconds. This is very strong and pretty clean to use.
