excluding the cap, were the other rule changes better for the game or worse?

1. Putting the puck out of the rink in your own end - I like this rule

2. The Goalie Trapezoid - this was a rule prior to 1974....without the line on the ice. I'm still not sure why we have the rule (or the line on the ice) because it's a waste of time.

3. Removing the Centre Line - again, this was only put into play in the 1940s, and only North America adopted it - I prefer hockey without

4. Instigator Rule
- this rule was adopted by the NHL in 1977, but was never really enforced until recently. The slight modification in the wording in 2005 didn't change the penalty.

5. Too many hooking calls - these have to go. I don't think love tapping a guy's-*** with your stick sideways constitutes hooking.

Again, with all the hockey games I've seen in my life, I don't see a whole lot of difference. As long as the trap is here and being used, the free-flowing action is gone.

All the rules combined, I'm split on it. There are some rules that are great, like no red line, but some things like instigator, trapezoid, the "wuss-touch" penalties (stick tapping the arm lightly equals two minutes in the box), the remaining touch icing...now that I put my thoughts on screen, the game was better with the old rules.

To be honest a bunch of the new rules i don't notice or really care about. I still like hockey. But i do like the old hockey better so i guess it was better before

Well, I think it's better. I like the no rule for two line passing, I like that space behind the net for goalies to go to, the only spot they can go to . It decreases goals, so the score isn't 10 to 9. I don't really like the indicator rule or whatever it's called.

The only rule changes that I like are the legal, two line pass. Or, the "removal" of the center ice line from what is a legal, two line pass.

The other is the no touch icing.

I think they are fine. It seems like this year the refs have done a lot better job of calling things consistently like the threshold of penalty or not I think it seems consistent.

This year especially seems like the players have adapted to the rules, especially the defensive style (note the GAA).

To be perfectlly honest, I don't remember much of the old rules. (gasp, i know) I've only been a dedicated fan since after the lock-out.

I don't think it matters. People still don't watch hockey.
