First I would take that ***** home and count the money.

Then I would think about it.

I might keep the money, but it is traceable, I would look up the laws regarding found money and penalties. I would desire to return it but I would also have to consider all of my options.

If I return it, I would maybe skim the contents and give the money to a trusted friend/relative or someone to take it out of the country and exchange it somehow...sorry, I know its laundering but wtf?

I could just return the entire contents or drop it into a mailbox and hope that the postmaster in the community figures it out. I know that most money is traceable but sometimes you have to take advantage of oppourtunities placed in front of you. I have been the good girl, hasn't gotten me one iota of respect or decent treatment. This world is filled with oppourtunists and if you dont take an oppourtunity, well, people usually look at you as if you have gone mad. A bank bag of money is more than a couple hundred, and I have been robbed twice, it just lets me know that people do this stuff day in and day out and since I am not criminally inclined I am not going to be stupid or make a hasty decision if I had a large sum of cash in my hands. Take Care.-Rachel.

The law in most states would require turning it in and being able to claim it after a period, usually a year or two, if no one came by to claim it. In the mean time, if the police determined that it was drug money and had an idea who it belonged to, they could notify the IRS or the state income tax department to make a jeopardy assessment againt the drug dealer and seize the money. If the money were traced to a bank, the money would be returned to the bank and you might get a reward. If no one claimed it and there was no way to pin it on someone illegal, then you would get it. If you just kept it, you might get away with it, but it sounds like the plot of "No country for old men"

I would report to the police that I had a bag of money. I would advertise that I found money at a certain place and if someone called and described what it was in and how much it was I would give it to them. After some number of days, it would become mine if no one did. My title to it is better than that of the police, but what do you bet I don't get it back under any circumstances if I turn it in to them?

Police.

Money shipments have barcodes on them. The barcode shows what serial numbers are in that stack. The bank will take an inventory and report to the police the serial numbers on the bills that were in the missing shipment.

It is very easy to track money. Don't keep it.

Also, many places no longer do the "if it isn't collected in 30 days, it's yours" policy. Our university PD donates that money to the scholarship funds if no one claims it.

I would turn it in to the police station. Of course, that much money wouldn't fit into a bag easily unless it was in very large denominations. No individual would be likely to carry those around, so it would probably be either stolen or fake.

I would notify the police that I had found a bag, describe the type and not tell them the contents. If the real owner could identify the true contents (amount) I would return it to them.

I'd turn it in. A bag of bank money would most likely be numbered sequentially (or have known serial numbers) and reported to authorities as missing, so if you spent it, they'd know where you got it from.

The only right thing to do is turn it over to the police without even counting it. The best rule is "if it ain't yours don't touch it."
