Given the size of their brains, I don't think spiders are capable of biting out of spite or aggression in a human sense. That said, they will bite to defend themselves and their habitat. Some are more aggressive in the sense that they will defend "what is theirs" more actively than others but they are not doing it JUST because they are mad, etc. Trust me, if that were the case my tarantula would have turned my son into a pincushion looooong ago. LOL.

The black widow, the most feared spider where I live, is not aggressive to people. I've read that they will bite in defense of the egg sac, but not in my experience. I can go poking around the egg sac and smash it, and the widow does nothing. Black widow bites mainly happen when the spider gets trapped under the clothing and is pressed against the skin, driving the fangs into it. Black widows are very common where I live in southern California, and everybody has them, though they seldom go into the house; they live outdoors and in garages and outbuildings and crawl spaces. Bites are rare in spite of how common they are and how little boys can't resist playing with them when they find one.
I can't speak for all spiders, though.
