I was just wondering, because I have one, and I have been using it to open up boxes, and I just found out that they were illegal in Oklahoma. Why are they illegal?

In Oklahoma, it's illegal to carry one, but you can have one in your home.

The reason is because in the 50's, people were afraid of automatic opening knives. Many states passed laws banning gravity knives, switchblades, or both. This falls under a "gravity knife" in most states.

Well 2 reasons I could think of, not that I know the law in Oklahoma.

One the butterfly knife would be considered a deadly weapon, being its main purpose would be to injure or kill.

Second, because the people there made it a law. Nuff said.

If you did research on the topic, you would probably find out that they are illegal in MOST States.

It is similar to a switch-blade knife, and they too are illegal in most States.

Get yourself a box cutter and contnue to open boxes the LEGAL way.
