Try dickblick.com....I saw a slimline, 8.5 X 11.5 for under $70. Avoid Michaels...theirs is a cheap piece of junk.

I build my own light box, very cheaply, and, relatively easily, considering I know nothing about woodworking.

A wooden frame assembled with little trouble, using scrap plywood and wood screws. I found a couple of small, 12 inch flourescent lights at a flea market for a few dollars each. The most expensive part was having a piece of 16 by 20 inch, frosted, acrylic plastic cut to size at a local plastic shop. (about $10)

Twenty years later, I still have it. The acrylic surface has suffered a few scratches, but it is still very usable.

They use a LOT of battery power, find one with a wall adapter so you can plug it in.

On the really 'cheap' side, turn on your tv, turn to a station with static, make sure the sound is down, then put your paper on the screen, the static electricity will hold it in place. Get a pillow and kneel on that and it's a pretty good light box. MUCH better than trying to use a window.

I use a plexy glass disk and a lamp, I rest the disk in my lap I also have the animation table that came with the disk but I don't have any space to set it up.
lots of art stores sell cheap light boxes, but if your a bit handy you could build one, I know someone who bought the plexy glass at the hardware store, then put it on top of a bankers box filled with christmas lights.

My sister used the window before we got a light box. She would tape it to the window,But Not with Scotch Tape. The only problem is that it has to be light outside. You can also animate on the computer,Which I'm sure you already know. Adobe Photoshop and Flash. It saves Trees too~ <(• w •<)
