I keep hearing people say that it is wrong for someone running for President of the US to admit to such a thing...
I think that it is a refreshing bit of all-to-rare honesty to be able to admit to prior mistakes.

What are YOUR thoughts?

Notice the phrasing of "wrong for someone running for President of the US to ADMIT to such a thing". Whould it be better if he had lied? It's coming soon that a majority of the people of legal age to run for president will have tried at least one type of drug at some point in their lives. While it does show a shortsighted view as a teenager/20ish, few teenagers are looking forward to running for office while in college. As such, I don't think it will have much effect with voters under the age of 35 or so. Personally I applaud someone standing up and admitting what they did rather than run from it.

"Admission of drug use in the. `(PAST)` being the KEY~WORD~!!. & "Big deal !!. What about ((NOW))... Seems to me that drug usage is'nt a current factor or problem !!?!!. I think that this is a moot issue. In our day and age to hear someone say that they never did this or they never did that in their past has nothing to do with their present. If people looked at what someone does with their opportunities and how well they stick to their own principles, we might actually have a few trustworthy politicians in the White House.
Everybody makes mistakes, hopefully we all can learn from them so we do not repeat them.
Good luck

A politician telling the truth... what a refreshing change of pace. He is to be commended, not ostracized.

If there were more politicians like Obama, our country would be in a whole lot better shape....

Great question by the way....

He was up-front about it. So many politicians lie and try to cover up stuff from their pasts, so it is indeed refreshing for one to just come out and admit a mistake that he made. It shows his human side. No one is perfect.

I don't think it matters what he did in the past. It's more important what he will do after I vote for him. I'll take either him or Hillary.

It's good that he can prove honesty. It would have come out anyway, though, so he might as well admit to it.

Honesty is a yes, of course. If people were barred because of past wrongs, who would be able to be president?

I commend him for being honest, but I also wonder if it is a calculated risk. You know, I wonder if he only did so to try and get more people to like him for appearing to be honest, or because they use drugs or have done so before. You know, make him more hip.

I sort of like the guy, but I do not like all his positions. I do not think I will vote for him, but I just might do so. I leave my options open.

I say good. At least he has felt a feeling that half the country has felt anyhow. Why hate? Much more pressing issues out there. Happy for the honesty.

I think he was right to admit to making mistakes in the past, who hasn't. And now a days who hasn't tried some type of drugs and regretted it later.
