I'd say yes you can if the window is not important to see outside clearly and able to use staples without damaging expensive wood trim around the window because that thickness of plastic will surely lessen the clarity. A staple gun with 1/2" long staples spaced about 6" appart and the plastic drawn tight ought to give you a good air barrier and help with the heating bill.

If you can staple the plastic from the inside of the window it would look better because you can use drapes to hide the plastic where as outside it will look a little more obvious.

I'm not too sure that saranwrap would work out so well. It's too thin.. See if any warehouses or businesses use plastic sheeting... My husband place uses it to wrap steel they may let you have some... We put it on the outside of some of our windows... It's NOT pretty but it keep the heat in.... Also, If all else fails use old bedsheets/duct tape ! Wear warm clothes and drink hot tea.... Good luck

For the cold nights i use large clear plastic bags cut down one side and at the bottom and taped on the window frames. At night i use two quilts, my own body heat keeps me really warm, now if i only had a companion, they can add to the heat as well. Wear thermals and drink plenty of hot liquids, like hot chocolate and split pea or green pea soup.

Yes.

Window insulation kits are typically in stock at home supply and hardware stores, and, for less than ten dollars, you can usually get a kit that will insulate 5 standard size windows or at least one extra large window.

Plastic is useful as a window barrier if it does not have seams and is placed on the interior side.

you could do that as a last resort. the plastic sheeting that is sold as a temporary storm kit is a lot thinker and hence works better.

I think is better if you use bed sheets to block it..that's how we used to do it..also don't forget the doors!
stay warm and wear warm clothes.

There must be someplace you can get some assistance to help with heating bills. Please check your local city or country and see if you can qualify for aid. I hate to see anyone cold during the winter.
