A lot of Finnish players are good at the shootout? Any reason to that or just a coincidence?

European skaters tend to work on puck protection during their training years. This leads to incredibly quick hands, wrists, and arms. They learn to shift their torsos and deke and just be shifty.

Quick hands allow them to move the puck side to side and open up goalies for scoring chances.

The choice skaters for shootouts are typically the guys who have the best hands. It doesn't matter if they are Finns or other.

Can somebody point me to a Finn not named Jussi Jokinen who is good at shootouts?

To date, Finns are 5/11 in shootouts.............which is places them 6th out of 11 (or dead middle) in the NHL

1. Poland 2/2 100%
2. Ukraine 1/1 100%
3. Slovenia 1/2 50%
4. Kazakhstan 1/2 50%
5. Czech Rep. 11/23 47.8%
6. Finland 5/11 45.4%
7. Slovakia 3/7 42.8%
8. Sweden 3/9 33.3%
9. America 7/23 30.4%
10. Canada 27/89 30.3%
11. Russia 6/22 27.3%

Personally, the Finn's appear to be nothing special.

The question should perhaps be

Why do Russians and North American's suck at shootouts!

A good reason could be the emphasis on finesse in Finland and Sweeden, if you watch them cycling in the corners their puck work is amazing and that transfers into the shootout game.

I don't know about "the best" but I certainly think they're good. I said it before, and I said it just two days ago: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Av____rgzMxdqC1cvSgTL0Tsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071120224358AA4Ztk7

Everyone knows (or hello, they should know) that Jussi Jokinen owns. Petteri Nummelin made 6 out out 7 attempts last season, which gave him a shooting percentage of 85.7... yet no one mentions him! Mikko Koivu's not bad either.

well a lot of fins are small nd quick and get a quick jump on a shootout. for example teemu selanne is good on shootouts. Also since some fins are fast they like to cut to one side really fast for a goal.

In a shootout there's no D so for once they aren't worried about some big defenseman breathing down their necks and trying to knock them on their butts.
