I am a freshman in college, and I have never kicked a football before (in an organized game). I would like to try and walk on as a place kicker on a college team as I have heard it's a relatively easy position to pick up. I played soccer growing up, but that was a long time ago, so it's not like I can look to that. I swam in high school, and had offers from division I schools, so I do have some athletic ability. What can I do to learn how to kick, and is it a possibility that somebody may pick me up?

Practice, practice, practice, try out!!

Even though you played soccer years ago, it is possible that may still help as many kickers now use the instep instead of toe to kick. Check the library for specific instruction, then go tee up. Having a friend or two to return the balls may seem helpful.
