Hey well I am pregnant with my third child and haven't been able to take my prenatal vitamins because every time I do I vomit all of my food up. So what is more important? Taking your prenatal vitamins or keeping your food down? I am 16 weeks and it's driving me insane I would really like to take them and keep my food down but it has been impossible

IF I could get in to see the doctor I wouldn't have to ask on here. Just wanted to know if other pregnant women have been going through this and what they did instead

I had the same problem. You don't take the prenatal's just go to the store and buy the over the counter vitamins that are high in iron and drink lots of Orange Juice. You will be fine. Or ask you doctor about the berry flavored Chewable vitamins, They are what I could take with my second child.

Hi I'm 17 weeks with my third also and have been having the same problem. What works for me is if I take them first thing in the morning with a glass of water. That way I only throw up a little bit of the water. I feel gross for maybe 5 minutes but I distract myself by getting the kids breakfast ready. Then I'm fine and able to eat without throwing up. Although now I hardly throw up after taking the vitamin. So maybe it may wear off for you as well

Have you tried doing it like that? I'd give that a shot and see how you go. Apart from that I really dont know which is more important. Try calling your Dr and asking. Sorry thats all I could think of.
Hope it stops soon and you figure out what to do. Good Luck!

i had the same problem with both pregnancies and i didnt take the vitamins because the food you keep down is better than no food at all just make sure you have a healthy diet, the only thing that happen with me was after my first one i was anemic so i had to take iron pills. if you feel you must take a vitamin the one a day multi vitamins works as do the flinstones but one thing about the flinstones is the taste(yuck) btw first child came three days past due date weight was 7 1/2 pounds second one came 2 weeks late weight was 8 1/2 pounds.

You could try a different brand of prenatal vitamins. The ones from the doctor made me sick but I didnt have any problems with the over the counter kind. I agree with everyone else if that doesnt work. Use a regular multivitamin and eat well. I think thats better than throwing up everything.

I had this problem BIG time! I tried the ones my doctor prescribed i tried the ones at GNC,WALMART,CVS even the free trial packs the doctors office handed out all the time. NOTHING worked. Finally my doctor told me to take flinestones vitamins and I take 3 a day (since their isnt alot of folic acid in 1 tablet and it says adults can take 2 or 3 so it wont hurt you to take more than a child.) and i have had no problems! Good luck and hope this helps :)

you can try a different brand of prenatal vitamins, because each one has a different level of iron and the high iron level is usually what makes for vomiting and sick feeling. Because I had to have 300mg iron pills I couldn't take the prenatal pills, I took a centrum multi vitamin and a folic acid pill everyday.

The same thing happened to me. I started taking them at night with bread. RIGHT before I went to sleep. That helped. My girlfriend had a similar problem, and her OB told her to take chewable Flintstone vitamins. They will help the baby develop, and the are much easier on your stomach. Good Luck, and congrats.

The large size of the vitamins (and also bitter taste) is a big problem ----- try taking one-a-day vitamins, which is minimum size. Take 2 or 3. For the minerals, look for small size and put chocolate candy in your mouth at time of swallowing. Good luck.

You may not be able to get in to see your doctor BUT you certainly can speak by phone with his nurse practitioner or nursing assistant. He/She will be able to advise you as fully as the doctor.

Failing that, you CAN leave a detailed message with the doctor's answering service/receptionist and request a call back with a appropriate advise. Be sure to have the receptionist read back to you your phone number and the hours when you can be reached at each number you give.

If your doctor's office does not provide this standard type of backup assistance, then you need to be finding another doctor. It's not the professional standard of care for him/her to provide less.

Have you tried maybe taking them at night before bed? That worked for me last time. Another option is taking a children's vitamin. They are not as hard on the stomach and then you will at least be getting some much needed nutrients :)
