Yes, tanning beds are harmful to the baby...As far as how/why...I don't know. It's my understanding that you're not suppose to take hot baths either..which seems silly to me as the baby is in your stomache....Perhaps someone can explain why..

As for everyone else..Why be so darn critical?? How is a person suppose to know everything without ever being told??

It's not any more harmful than it would be to the rest of your body, let's put it that way. Your skin there is more sensitive, so you just need the extra protection. Apply lots of sunprotecting cream before tanning and some moisturizers after too, so that your skin doesn't peel. If you want your breasts to be tanned, but are worried about your nipples, I would suggest applying a little round sticker. Some piece of paper with scotch tape or whatever you wish. That way you can still tan, just keep that part hidden

HOLY CRAP!!! YES YES YES, This is what my doctor told me... If you lay in the sun all day or get in a tanning bed and after your skin feels warm to the touch... The baby is 100 times hotter inside the skin than what you feel on the outside!! So your basicly baking your unborn child. So PLEASE stay away from the tanning beds while pregnant!

see, things like this should be obvious, and it's scary that everyone doesn't have enough common sense to know that a tanning bed could harm and unborn baby. i am glad you asked before doing it, though.
