Before you go putting any money into the market, read up on what you're getting into first. And get opinions from multiple sources as well, seems like everyone has a different opinion about the market.
And when you are ready to invest, don't put all your money in at once. Gradually put money into the market (either by buying a mutual fund or stocks). This ensures that you're not buying everything at the top.

Investing in "individual" stocks takes a lot of time, knowledge, and patience. As a beginner I personally would suggest you start with mutual and index funds from a company such a Vanguard. These are much less risky especially for beginners.

Stock market investing is not easy as expected so a long time needed to really understand. Buy a book about investing. I like this book:
