A Rod did let Boras do his job. Boras convinced A Rod to opt out of his contract. A Rod opted out. Both knew no team would give A Rod $300 + million a year. I think brettj666 correctly answered. Either A Rod & Boras realised, after A Rod opted out of his contract, that no team would pay him what he was asking, and they came up with a plan to pretend A Rod on his own went back to the Yankees, or the whole thing was planned prior to A Rod opting out to get a 10 year deal from the Yankees. Either way it was the worst thing the Yankees did by re-signing A Rod. A Rod did nothing, in the last 4 years, to help the Yankees win, and he will do nothing in the next 10 years to help them win.
Unlike when the Rangers gave A Rod the $252 million contract 7 years ago, teams can no longer borrow money, they don't have, to pay for salaries. At this salary, there are only 4 teams that can afford that much money. The Yankees, of course, the Red Sox, Mets and Angels, the Cubs would be 5 but their ownership is in flux. The other 3 teams would never give him or anyone that much money, and the Yankees pretty much have unlimited funds.

Unfortunately, no team will ever pay $30 million dollars every year to one single player. That sum doesn't even include incentives and bonuses. It's simply unreasonable. Alex Rodriquez realized that no team was biting. He also realized how much he loves New York and that they are not rebuilding like everyone thinks they are. They brought back Posada, Rivera and Abreu. Alex knows they still have a chance to win a world series.
He still got a pay increase. His salary went up 2.5 million to 27.5 million from 25 million per year.
And no General Manager likes Scott Boras. If you read the news, Kenny Rogers just fired him because Boras is inflating the prices of every client and overrating them just so he can get a hefty percentage of the money.
Bottom line, Alex loves baseball. He just won his 3rd MVP in 5 years, and he's well on pace to eclipse ***Barry Bond's home run record***.
Isn't playing for the same team better than playing for no team at all?

Did you not read or hear about anything concerning this?? Boras started ranting and raving to all these different teams that this team was offering A Rod that and that team was offering A Rod this and they all said "Oh yeah?? Well let him go to that team then" And then Boras was like "Er.....Um....." Because they called his bluff. All of a sudden the tables had turned and Boras had no power so A Rod took matters in to his own hands and did what was best for himself.

I think he knew he wasn't gonna get the money Boras had promised him, and besides, no teams were gonna take that risk on him for that much. I think that the hold out was a smart move, but going back to the Yankees and personally asking to meet with them was a better move. A move that should keep A Rod loved by the fans.

your off base and wrong. He found out there was no market for 350-400 million. Especially with the Yankees not bidding against other teams, nobody was going to give him that kind of money. Plus he wanted to play for the yankees and not another team. thats the main thing Boras didn't consider.

IMHO, Arod realized Boras wasn't getting those offers, maybe even to the point of collusion.
The only way to go back to the yankees AND have the Yankees save face was to show to the media and fans that Arod has 'gone beyond all means to show he wants to be a Yankee' and disassociated himself from Boras for this negotiation.
If he wasn't letting his agent do any of this, why not fire him?? why pay him commission for something he had no part in.
In short, I think this whole thing was a fake. It allowed for the Yankees to go back on their VERY public statement of "if Arod opts out, we will not negotiate" and allows Arod to return for exactly the same money he was owed plus the rumoured extension.

Scott Boras put out a number that no other team could or would come close to. He has still gotten the two largest contracts ever in baseball for A-Rod.

because alex rodriguez didn't want to have to deal with all of the craziness that is a scott boras contract negotiation. he wanted to know where he was going to be and felt comfortable in new york. rodriguez wanted to stay in new york and the yankees would not talk to him if boras was in the room.

Because nobody would've given him 350 million. He also just wanted to go back to the Yankees.

Because if he were to test the market he may have gone to a team that he would have a less chance of going to the world series with, he knew that the yankees have a good chance of making it there and the rangers have no chance. he has enough money anyway. $40000+ per atbat
