I believe the "vote for Howard is a vote for Costello" issue not discussed enough. It may be true that team Rudd don't have the same experience as team Howard, yet I would suggest team Costello with Abbott, for example, or even Hockey, with the treasurer portfolio, would be nothing short of suicide for Australian workers.

Please only reasonable answers, no remarks about how clever Costello is or how high interest rates were. Let me remind everyone again:

* 22% interest rates when Howard was treasurer
* It's alright for the Kelly gang to distribute illegal flyers, because we should "treat a husband and wife as seperate entities" when assessing guilt in this situation. However a minor indiscretion by Mrs Rudd was condemned as an outrage.
* Kevin07 has run a "clear vision for the future" campaign. John Howard has run a scare mongering, negative campaign with bully tactics which, according to him, is something we should be a scared of regarding the Unions.

Good luck on Saturday.

Matt W:

To mention the interest rates when Howard was treasurer is to disqualify a major theme in the scare campaign by the Liberal party ie interest rates higher under labour.

As an employee what do you stand to lose if Labour wins the election, the answer is nothing. Small businesses will always run as a tight knit unit and in my experience have always managed to repell any Union influences in the workplace. I make this point to again disqualify another aspect of the Liberal scare campaign.

If I am so naive and dumb (again with the desperate name calling) please enlighten with just one example that qualifies your argument that Labour is running any type of scare campaign.

Interest rates did rise during Labour's last term in office however they were on a decline by the time the Liberals came back into power. This is called a trend. Liberals make the mistakes Labour fixes them and is made to look like the reason for the mistake.

Good pick up on the fact I support Labor.

what you are forgetting is that is Labor inheritted the 22% from Howard from 1975 to 1983 when he was the treasurer , it took Hawke & Keating to get back down from that 22 % to 17 % and that took some time as Howard left the bank empty of the $9.6 Billion Dollars,

Labor was never entittled to see the bank balance before that, and Howard was very crafty at that.

It was Hawke & Keating that set this boom time that WA is riding on, What is going to happen when China decides that they will seek elsewhere for the raw materiles that they need?
and they will, what happens then, when its all said and done Howard is riding on the success of what the Labor Party started,

Howard when he was Treasurer did not want anything like that started, he was a stumbling block for that advancement of Australia , and when it was started there was more work and those mines began operating at full capacity, even a company railway was built for the mines to market it, Look at the North West Shelf Gas Project, who is the main buyer , China,

And it was not the LIberal partyy that set all these in production it was Labor, and it took The Liberal Party to stop all those Projects,

Here is another bit of information Australia does not need to import Oil at all Australia has enough Oil drilled and capped but not in Production, all these were capped during the Labor years.

The Liberal party stopped all those as well. how do I know because I use to work for those companies that were involved in such projects.

Matt W,the Chinese Communist Party deserves more credit than Howard for how our economy is running at the moment. With the way China and India are buying our resources at rock bottom prices my 5 year old daughter could create a surplus. But remember running a huge surplus is just as bad as a deficit,it means taxes are too high and not enough is being spent on infrastructure, health, education etc.Howard has missed a perfect opportunity to set this country up for the future but has blown it by spending billions of dollars on trying to buy his popularity.Remember after every tax cut it has been eaten up a few months later with a rate rise.

Also when this mining boom ends is when you will see the true evil of workchoices.Just like the US (and Johnnys idol GW) we will be working for $2.50 an hour take it or leave it.We already have a new class of working poor and things will only get worse under Howard/Costello and the Liberals.

Excellent point, especially as so many of the candidates fielded by BOTH parties are 'untried' people. In fact, I believe that once upon a time, even John Howard was a beginner.

Maybe people made a mistake voting for him then?

This whole beginner nonsense really is a scare campaign ~ I guess that's all they have left.

And yes, I'd forgotten that re Mrs Rudd ~ and she hadn't even actually done anything wrong, it was just an error which was immediately corrected, unlike the candidate for Lindsay's husband, the outgoing Member's husband and senior Liberal figures from the area. Shame.

Cheers! :-)

This is a question with an underlying and obvious bias within.

John Howard was a treasurer too, remember. And he has been very successful so far in regards to the economy.

"
* 22% interest rates when Howard was treasurer
"

Why did you mention that? It's irrelevant.. are you saying that Costello needs to have high interest rates as treasurer to be successful? That's pretty dumb. :P

(Oh, and by the way, they both run scare mongering negative campaigns. It's just you're on Kevin's side obviously so you are too naive to see it)

What a load of Nonsense

We need an experienced Government to run a Country

As Alexander Downer Says...
The government is like the Australian Cricket Team
-We don't replace them just because we need a change
We need the COALITION to keep going with their great work

Go John Howard
What he has achieved in 11 years is an inspiration

The Unions are not what Australia need for a government
They DO NOT represent the Australian people

They represent 20% of the workforce

We need a balanced government with Proven MP's to get the job done properly

Labor scare Campaign - People saying that he is going to retire - "So What's the point in voting for him"
One Example

All Kevin Rudd has said is that he will help Working Families by getting rid of workchoices, ratifying KYOTO and getting Fast broadband

Getting rid of Workchoices will cost several BILLION dollars and workers and employers will be worse off (Eg. ME)
Fast Broadband is certainly not essential and we are on target with our KYOTO target without signing it.

Rudd, Gillard and SWAN will be real suicide for Australia
None of these candidates have managed an economy before
We need an experience team to manage our 1.1 TRILLION dollar economy

HOWARD will win on the 24th - He's come back before!

Go Howard LIBERAL - "Go for Growth"

Here some Examples...

Lower, Fairer Taxes

A Sustainable Environment

Better Roads and Rail

Encouraging Small Business

Productive and Prosperous Australia Industries

22% interest rates? YES, Because John Howard was left to clean up Labor's mess. How can you expect interest rates to go down the minute a government changes? You can't you'll see if a Labor are elected government that interest rates will continue to rise and rise, not go down.

And an experienced person will be elected tresurer, as Liberal have been in government for 11 years.
