I've looked at Advantage, K9 Advantage and Frontline there sooo expensive. Can someone please tell me an alternative that would work on cats or dogs?

I would still buy Frontline. Most vets will sell it one tube at a time. It is about fifteen dollars a tube. I never use a full tube on a dog. You could get two or three months out of one tube. And the best part is that it really does work. I buy the largest tube for 90+ lb dogs and use it on my 90lb golden and all 7 chihuahuas. It does work, and only runs fifteen dollars a month. It's worth every penny.

I'm afraid there is no useful alternative to veterinary flea treatments. Like everything, you get what you pay for! Buy cheap crud from a store and it will not work.

Buy some Frontline or Advantage online, it's cheaper. I don't usually advise this because you can sometimes get bogus stuff, but better this than you risking your pet's health with store bought stuff, or wasting your time with home remedies. I suggest you get some bottles of the spray version of Frontline - one small bottle will treat a few cats and costs the same as a 3 pack of the Frontline spot-on - it's probably the most cost effective way of dealing with fleas.

I already know everything that is going to be suggested on here: Walmart products, neem oil, garlic, Dawn dish soap. Just know that if you try these you'll be wasting your time. You've been told!

They sell these in 4 and 6 packs..or larger, so if you break it down, it really only comes out to around $10.00 a month. That is pretty cheap to have your pets be flea free. Do not waste your time bathing them with flea dips..this is only a temporary solution..the most effective way to treat them is a LONG term control like Advantage of frontline. You may not have to use it year round if you live somewhere that gets cold in the winter. Some people only use it in the summer when fleas are at their worst, and skip months in the winter until fleas are seen.

go for the expense, after wasting your time and trouble on the cheaper stuff you will still have pesky fleas, after enough aggravation, it will be frontline or k9 advantage anyway... your wisest choice will be skipping the cheap stuff and saving your money....don't forget too treat the carpet and clean all the pet beds and blankets...good luck, and best wishes...HAPPY THANKSGIVING :-)

Ana Maria is correct some of the cheap stuff is dangerous to deadly to some pets, and the flea collars are worthless and cause rashes and sometimes severe skin problems

The thing is, they are more exspensive because they work. Don't get Hartz or over the counter stuff because it isn't safe and usually doesn't work. I use frontline on my dogs and I've never had a flea problem.

The products are expensive because they are safe and the main thing is that they work. No over the counter products work and some like hartz are unsafe and can cause severe reactions in some pets, some resulting in death. Spend the money, trust me.

Anything that is really necessary they can charge a lot as they know people will still buy the product. You haven't seen anything yet - wait til you start buying nappies (diapers - I assume you are American by the way you wrote the date with the month first) and formula!
I use Exelpet but not sure if you have it there.

Buy them at http://www.800petmeds.com MUCH cheaper than elsewhere plus you can often find coupon codes online to take another $5 off - just Google "coupon code 800petmeds.com"

Please don't let cost keep you from giving your pets the RIGHT flea meds. The stuff they sell at stores is cheap but it's also innefective and quite dangerous for pets!

the alternative, get rid of the pets!!! if you don't want to treat your lawn, your house, and your pets, then your destined to a life of fleas. pony up some cash, get rid of the pets, or get used to the fleas.
